Grubby,
Sure they can stop them but the show would be horribly slow and boring. I watch old video of the Mods on dusty slow runs and I can't believe I liked them as much as I did. I like them much better the way they run them now. But that's just me I guess, everyone has their own opinion...that is mine!

I actually just got a couple of videos from a gentleman today of my passes at some Northeast Ohio pulls. At these events I went past the 350' full pull mark going quite fast. The crowd seem to love it even though I was driving one of those cookie cutter twin Hemi tractors that was pulling a sled what some people seem to think is a very light weight sled. Even though I had to wait quite som

I actually had a conversation with a mod puller the lives in that part of Ohio and that's why he didn't come. It is a very fine line as to when you get there...to early you have to park outside the infield until a certain time but get there to late and you can get stuck in the traffic getting into the grounds. They say that every night it is gridlock for hours I all directions. I wil

Fan,
I do agree that those tires are making a big difference unfortunately everyone in the big mod classes are going to need them...just another $10,000 plus to add to the cost of running a mod tractor. Not to mention making it even harder to stop the Heavy Unlimited tractors...in effect slowing them down because that's the only way to stop them, make the boat heavier from the start. The

Groundpounder,
I would agree the class was great at BG but my question to you is this, is it sustainable at this level? Can the owners keep up with the maintenance and can the sleds keep up and stop them? I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask this question. Would anyone have know the difference if the points winner had been running 14-71 blowers rather than 18-71 without being told?

FIY that is one of the main reasons the mod committee voted to not recommend a rule change last year and wanted the rules locked for 3 years. As unreasonable as you seem to think we are even I voted that way and I think the class would be better without the big blowers. I didn't feel it was right to punish the people who had stepped up to the the big blowers within the rules. Do I th

I think there are several reasons for the lack of mod tractors. First this is the eastern most event for the mod tractors...a long drive for most of them. Secondly there are not as many tractors running this year for various reasons not to mention that the RN Mod schedule was split in half making part of the tractors opt to not run the whole RN circuit. Being as this is one of the late season

Patches,
Part of the issue is that in order to stop the Heavy Unlimited tractors they have to make the sled so heavy that they put a poor show. It doesn't look good when the most prestigious class in pulling is slower than the rest of the classes. The improvements in power and even more significantly tires makes these tractors much harder to stop in a reasonable distance. The last time t

Tell me...how much weight was in the sled at the last pull you attended? Doubt that anyone but the sled operator knows so it's a moot point. Unlike a time slip.

More weight,
So true but in the scheme of things who knows how much weight is in a sled? Most pullers don't even know let alone the fans.

That's all well and good but read my last sentence, it is becoming more and more true every year.
Ask Ken how he feels about making changes to gain HP in pulling vs racing you might be surprised by his answer. Think time slip vs the sled just adding another block of weight. In one case you have tangible evidence that you did better. In pulling they just heavy up the sled and it has cost

Two years ago we entered the Feissty Farmer in the GN Mod class for two reasons, one there weren't enough entries to take all of the checks plus we were already on the grounds for the Lt. Unlimited class. Do we like to get last place with an RN setup? No but as much as it cost us to be ready to compete why not get another check? Fast forward to this year and there were more entries in the

I remember back in the day when we were pulling with KTPA a fellow puller got protested on C.I. and he was thrilled because he knew he was going home with the protest money as well as first place money...he wasn't worried he was happy!
I would think that if no one was worried the protest would have been carried out, but then I don't know the details of why it didn't happen.

I had a conversation with a very important individual in the motorsports world recently and he made a very good point about pulling vs racing. The point was in racing you have a number to improve upon when you spend money on making more power whereas in pulling they just add weight to the sled and

The rules for the Allisons was changed over the winter to allow them more blower overdrive. Last Friday in Waeseon Oh. the Top Gun tractor ran in RN class for the first time and split the win with Tarry on the Feissty Farmer. They were within 2' of each other and got past me by 10'+ on the first pass so I think the Allisons are well within reason. The turbines also got more HP

The one issue I could see with this setup is that there could be a lot of congestion and confusion at this scale. If you are in the last class and the current class is weighing out it could get to be impossible for someone in the later classes to check there weight and hitch.

Jake,
It could be done similar to the RN points for qualifing for the Enderle. The points for late events carry over to the next year. I'm not saying it should happen but that is one way that it could happen. The issue that has happened at the RN level is pullers that want to change their level of pulling from one season to the next. Say a puller ran the GN for a season then wants to run

I have a question, if you were in charge exactly what would you do to be sure that track was good to go? How would you know a week beforehand that the dirt was going to do what you want it to do next Friday night? Don't get me wrong here I think it is a shame that these pullers drove in some cases close to a 1000 miles for that event to have a poor track. If I had been there I'm sure

We're not sure at this point but likey just the Lt. Unlimited. Not sure we will have our other two engines ready by then. Just not pushing that hard both because of the lack of energy plus we are needing a few parts. Time will tell.

I would agree with you except for a few things. One is the money it takes to be competitive vs the money we win. Let me just put it this way;it cost us a LOT of money to go out on the track to entertain people and have our fun. Even when we win it's a losing proposition. Second thing is the testing, whether we do it on the track,on the dyno or rent a sled and a place to run it cost a lot

It has to do with pulling something that is hook to the hitch. When you hook to a loaded hay wagon it pulls pretty easy untill get to hill, depending on how steep the hill is will determine if you have a strong enough tractor. When you farm you don't always pull a plow some times you pull a hay wagon. It's faster but in some cases it will let you know how strong your tractor is.

Interesting, none of my customers in any tractor class run 70wt. Most of my blower engine customers use 70w even some of them use 50wt. We have always used Nitro 70 in our blown engines.

I use a turkey fryer at about 170°minimum,for 20 quarts it usually takes about an hour. You can smell when the Alky is gone and the oil will look new agian. I don't like to do it more than 2 times. We had some fuel system issues a few years ago and boiling the oil saved me a lot on oil cost, I haven't done it for the last 2 years as we solved those issues. We just put new oi

I sell Penn Grade 1 oil to several Alky SS tractor owners, they use either 20w50 or straight 50wt. Most seem to change their oil every 3 or 4 passes. They mostly say that their oil gets diluted during the time they are driving around a low RPMS not nessesarily going down the track. Some will boil their oil to remove the Alky from the oil then reuse the oil. We have done that occasionally with th

How long do you suppose people are going to drive 4 to 8 hours one way only to have their tractor choke out at 150' then go home make a few tweaks do it again and again and again? Not many people have the patience for that even if they have the time, I know I dont.
