In truth there are lots of TWD classes. TWD trucks started out just like any other class, started with stock trucks and progressed from there. If you go into Ky the are lots of different levels of TWD trucks. They run mini trucks, pro street, pro stock, modified as well as the open class and each time the classes changed it was just like the tractor classes. Someone wanted to go back to a less

The NTPA needs to hire Tom McConnell to get sponsors and sell their product to the media. He had a show on a national TV network that was not much above a county fair brush pull... How does that happen? He gets his new vintage series into Freedom Hall... Did he make money, not likely but I'd bet that he had enough sponsores to cover his cost. He gets some stuff done that no one thinks he

That's all well and good but the reality is that the Mod classes are shrinking because of the cost. The original question was where will the class be in 10 years. I don't think it will happen in 10 years but at some point in the future I could see it becoming an exhibition only class. I'm just not sure where the guys will come from that will be willing to spend the enormous amoun

Chris,as stated before I like the LLSS class but I get tired of the Mod class getting lambasted for being boring and nothing but cookie cutter. My point is that the LLSS class without hoods would all look alike. The basic size and dimensions are identical, they sound the same they are all inline 6 engines, they run the same tires ,they are all turbo charged and most of them are alcohol. Why is

Lewis, take the hoods off of your LLSS and how different would they be? Don't get me wrong I like that class ,I was the one that made a motion to include them in HSTPA. You have four basic setups,Cummins,JD, IH and couple of Diesel tractors and under their skin they all look more alike than our Mods. We have Allisons,Chevys,Turbines and Hemi's. Why is your class more Interesting than

At this year's rules meetings the RN rules for the Turbines was changed to allow for more HP as well as changing the the blower wheel limits for the Allison tractors. The RN Allison tractors are also now allowed to run one turbocharged engine along with the other engine running the Allison supercharger. These changes were made to try and get these compinations to be more competitive.

I know nothing about these things but you have me thinking. If the truck has a small pipe at turbo that then emptys into a very large pipe that is much taller it seems it would then slow down the flow of the smoke plume.

The People put simply. We had been pulling on the GN circuit for the last few years and have gotten to know a lot of new people and have really enjoyed getting to know them all. This year we went back to pulling the RN circuit,at one of the first events we went to I remember walking through the pits talking with people that we pulled with before going GN pulling. It was refreshing to realize

Personally I think that there should be more single blown classes around the country as a place for guys to start. They have a class like this in Illinois as well as the thumb of Michigan. I'd like to see more of that.

First, the short answer is that the guys with the six cylinder tractors have people to go to if they want an engine. Evidently the guys that might want the v-8 might not have that opportunity. My friend decided to build his,he is a very expirianced puller and has been building tractors for many many years. He is spending a LOT of money and still can't seem to finish the project. He is not

To EAB, one reason that I heard was that the people that have them figured out would not build for anyone else. I have a friend that told me that he went to them to have them do just that and they said no. So he started building his own and has hit road block after road block. He is still trying to get cams made with no luck. Starting from scratch building new heads for a 903 is no small task

I'm not sure about others in the mod classes but I personally haven't given it a second thought and I'm not sure it would make much difference. TWD and 4WD might be a different story altogether. I will say that I feel that most of the top tier pullers in these classes take pride in the fact that they can drive their vehicles and resent the fact that others think they can't

So, we have two tractors with a total of four engines and we are supposed to tow them to a tech barn install four complete ignition systems then get them all timed correctly. Then when we are done tow them back to the tech barn remove said ignition systems. I'm not sure how good others are at doing this but it would take me and my wife a very long time to set up and time four engines. On

Helmet blowers work. I have to wear my glasses when I pull and fogging was a major issue. We run mod tractors and I'm not going down the track without my visor down. I've used a blower fan for my helmet for years and can tell you they work. Not only do they keep the glasses and visor from gogging but the side benefit is that they really cool down your head on those 90+ days. They m

I'm pretty sure most of the pullers in the pulloff are headed to Canton,Oh for a GN hook and didn't want to take a chance on hurting something. I was surprised to see that many good Pro Stock tractors to begin with at an RN hook with a GN the next night. If you plan to add engines down the road you need to start with a SQHD center then add Franklin planetaries. They are lighter than cats and down the road you can add the light weight version that SCS makes. Also you have two different ratios to choose from. Franklin has a 4.0 and a 4.6 we use to run the slow ones for two engines and the fast ones for three engines.

There is power in a lot of places but not everywhere, the power is different in different areas some places have 50 and 30 amp but not many. There are a lot of places that have 15 or 20 amp outlets. There are a lot of big generators with panels but at times you will need a long heavy cord.

I think it would be great if they adopted a system similar to what some restaurants use where they text your phone when your table is ready. One of the hardest things for competitors is knowing when to get in line for the scales. It was mentioned a few years ago to use a paging system like they use in restaurants but that would be costly, useing cell phones and text would reduce the cost to n

We also use a helmet with vent and use blowers. It not only helps with the fogging but helps cool you off on those really hot days.

Matt,
I have to say that the class has stepped up quite a bit in the time you guys have been away. I really believe that anyone trying to run with 14-71s will be playing catchup all summer. I know you guys run hard but facts are facts and the big blowers are working.
I really hate what all dairy farmers are going through, that has to be about the most stressful way to farm out there.

I am leaning toward allowing the guys that have the bigger blowers to continue to run them but with overdrive restrictions. That way these competitors have not wasted their money on blowers that they might not be able to sell (18-71) and it could be a way to make the 14-71 tractors competitive again. This will also allow the 14-71 tractors to continue to cross over to other mod classes. I a

I hear the same complaint with the Petro's in the two wheel drive class but there are times in RN competition that if they didn't show up the numbers would be very low. I think there are times on the GN where if the team you are referring to doesn't show up in the Lt SS or the heavy Unlimited SS the numbers would be very low...example Benson, NC.
