That's because if they give these tractors too much hitch at the line they get way to much ground speed in the first 100',then they can't be stopped until about 400'. I've been there done that. With my mods if they allow me to open the throttle at the line and carry the front right away we are going for a long ride.

I find it interesting that folks want to change tire size on any classes. We run the Lt. Unlimited class and spend tremendous amounts of money just so we can hold down the front of our tractors. We ran a three engine mod at State and RN events for years. There was a sled that we pulled down south that gave us a lot of hitch right out of the hole. All of the sleds up north we would have to come out at partial throttle to keep from blowing the tires off. On the sled down south we could open up the throttle right at the line. Looked at the schedule and they did change the whole event to an RN-5. We got a letter a while back that said they had changed the TWD class but since then they must have changed up the whole thing.

We took our rv there for years,they have electricity and a dump station with a water hose to fill your water tanks if you want. I think it cost about $50 a night. Go to the KY fair and exibition center Web site to make reservations. We liked it because it was very handy to the show and pull with a nice close place to rest when you need to.

I think one thing that could help with the fume problem would be to have the USS and Lt SS use a smoke tube. When the USS class runs they seem to be worse than the Mods and even if they aren't that is a possible solution to the breathing issues we have in the stands.

I worked at a power plant for many years and they had a backup fire pump engine that was an A-C. I'm not sure anymore as it's been a long time but as I remember it was a very large CI and it ran on gas. It had two spark plugs per cylinder. I thought the worst fumes were from the USS and the LSS but that would be easier to fix than the Mods and TWD, just add a smoke tube to those tractors. I run a Mod and I don't see any easy way to fix that issue. I like all of the classes and don't want to see any of them kicked to the curb but it does get pretty intense the higher up you go in the seats.

I would bet that if you had two tracks with a set of bleachers in between with the old stuff on one track and the new stuff on the other that most people would end up watching the new stuff. If they could only watch one track they would go for the fast tire speed and fast pulls rather than the slow steady old style pulls.

I'm not sure how much the 4600 will take but they have been run in some Lt SS and held up pretty well. We had to run a gear in the 8 speed that was not strong enough ( I think it was 6th ) so did we away with it and used a truck transfer case in its place to get our gear reduction. Some one like Bob Barbee could tell you a lot more about what they will handle. As for the mention below

We ran 88 reared for a long time but they don't like much over 700 hp, they will start breaking the back input shaft bearing support. We ran a 1650 with about 750 to 800 hp without much trouble,we did break a gear or two in the transmission over the years. We pretty much left the metal the same,just added another 2 foot section that is not attached to the original. We used the front axle,rearend,dash panel and the metal. I'm not sure what Chis means by "a better track" but I can tell you this, tracks don't come much tougher than that track. I know of 2wd pullers that completely change up their truck just to get some extra front end weight.

If you do a tracker be sure to get an automatic transmission, makes it much easier to tow a tractor. We used one for a little while and it worked good, when we changed trailers it wouldn't fit any more.

We have used a gas powered mule to tow our 7500 lb mod for the last 10 years. Has it been great, not totally as we have broken some ring and pinions and some axle parts. We likely still have less money spent on it than a Kabota, it's just annoying when it breaks and hard to find used parts for. Having said all of that it will tow our tractor with no problem and we have it way overloaded

The last econo mod we built was a 4600 ford,it is the same as the 4000. The first two years we used the 8 speed Tran, when it broke we took it out and used a transfer case out of a truck. We should have gone with a Pro Fab 4 speed. The rear is very light and seemed to be plenty strong. The brakes are mechanical as opposed to the hydrolic brakes on the 5000 and worked pretty good. I've never used water down there, I don't think it is availabe this time of year. They do have a dump station with a water supply that I think was turned on. I think I've seen people filling their water tanks at the dump station when they arrive.
