Re: 2010 Keystone Nationals Opinion Article - 14 years ago
I thought it was a real good class. My one complaint is there are a few too many 9/10/1466’s, but I guess that’s not a surprise! I joked with JR that it’s hard to believe there are any of those tractors left in a field anywhere, seems like they are all on tracks in one state or another! Thurmon Munford Jr’s 856 is going to be a great looking tractor once it’s got a coat of paint on it, and eveby Jake Morgan - Forum

We must have left at about the same time, midnight, and we missed the last two classes. I would have loved to have stayed but I was driving home and I didn’t want to get back too late. My head hit my pillow at 5:00 AM. Thanks for bringing the tractors down, it’s great to see those gas tractors mix it up with the diesels. You made some very respectable runs. Someone anonymous alleges they saw the truck at a casino and they are making a big deal about it. Most people I know that have or have had a company car can use that car for personal use as long as they pay for gas and record mileage. The vehicle is usually part of their salary compensation and it’s negotiated between the employer and the employee, like any other benefit. Doug’s choice toby Jake Morgan - Forum

Some side notes for the event that didn’t go with the review of the pull: LSS – Simply Nastyier is very, very impressive. That tractor needs about 300 lbs. more front end weight or about 2 less inches of drawbar, because that little tractor is mean! When they get the right wieght/drawbar combo figured out they are going to be very, very tough. Lot’s a carnage in the LSS finals: Hootman tooby Jake Morgan - Forum
The 2010 Keystone Nationals - - 14 years ago
I haven’t had much time to work on the Opinion page and I definitely haven’t reviewed a pull in a while so it’s the perfect time to kill two birds with one stone, and the 2010 Keystone event is one worth noting. For those of you who haven’t ever been to an indoor tractor pull, it’s quite an experience; it’s usually bad stale air with some great pulling action. It’s been a while but I’ve finally had some time to write a new Opinion article. I know I’ve neglected the Opinion page lately, and there even may be one or two of you who like my Opinions from time to time… I’m hoping to write a few more articles this year if time permits. The new article is about the Keystone Nationals event that took place over the weekend in Harrisburg, PA. Also, I’ll beby Jake Morgan - Forum

Thanks for you excellent (but failed) attempt to twist my words. My references to those individuals was in making an analogy regarding certain situations and instances in the Outlaws organization. Re: deckplates should they be legal in superfarm - 14 years ago
Your not measuring the stoke, you would only be measure the height from the centerline of the crank to the top of the deck plate. The centerline of the crank is the center of the journals where the mains are, it’s the center of the nose of the crank, the center of the fly wheel (hope that clears it up). It would be easy to measure from the nose of the crank to the top of the deck plate at the fby Jake Morgan - Forum

I’m guessing he was being sarcastic. I’m guessing he knows the only way to add cubes is with bore and stroke. Heck someone could run a tall deck plate with a short rod and a short stroke crank and still be small cubes with the right piston height, it would “look” big from the outside. As we all know, it doesn’t matter what it looks like, it’s what it “is” that’s important. That means measurby Jake Morgan - Forum

Re: deckplates should they be legal in superfarm - 14 years ago
Very, very well written and thought-out post. I really like the idea of a maximum height for the block+plate rule. It would be a great equalized for the brands. Logical and simple and gets rid of any speculation. Measure form the centerline of the crank to the bottom of the head and you are all done. Re: My Question - 14 years ago
My opinion is that Rich has a very valid point. I’m happy the rule will be in effect for 2011, but I also wonder why it can’t be implemented immediately. Did anyone consult the alcohol tractor to see if they need to change gears or make any other changes to run an additional 500 lbs? I’m going to take a guess, but I’d wager that they would all take the 500 lbs. in 2010 if offered. I don’t hby Jake Morgan - Forum

Some state DSS pullers can (and choose to) spend money. John Raymond and Hans Bolxer have some hig dollar parts and it’s OK for them to come to a few shows a year and pull against P-pump and Sigma Supers. The fans benefit by seeing some of the best of the best as well as seeing the guys they know and love chasing the local points. Here’s my take on Doug from the couple of conversations I’ve had with him in person (as a side note, the few conversations I’ve had with Doug have been great, and he was frank and easy to talk with) as well as from the various parties I’ve talked with: Doug is just like every other human being; he’s got his strengths and his weakby Jake Morgan - Forum
Diesel vs. Alcohol should be in one class - 14 years ago
It think my father was being sarcastic about splitting the class. It was a joke that if someone want to talk about splitting the class then we need to be fair and split the Pro’s off as well. I know he (and I) are against splitting the alcohol and diesel SS into two classes. The rivalry between the fuel types is exciting and one of the best things about the class. Chris, Isn’t it funny that they make fun of you because you got beat in Gordyville, yet somehow you still have an unfair advantage because of the Big Block? As Rich stated, this rule, (and all rules) don’t only affect competitors, but they have a very big impact for fans. Personally as a fan I think this rule change is great, I’d love to see it implemented in 2010, but 2011 is better than nothing. Rules go well beyond just the dozen people who currently pull in the class. As a fan I want to see Alcohol SS pul against DSS, not just one or the otherby Jake Morgan - Forum

I’m by no means a Ford expert, thankfully there are guys like Curt Forrester that can correct any wrong info I write. The 474 was never put in tractors, but it can swing the same crank as the 401 and 456 so it’s considered a replacement by most organizations. It’s the same rule that allows the IH guys to put a 466 in a 9/1066 instead of the 414, or the Deere guys a 619 instead of a 531. Thby Jake Morgan - Forum

I personally don’t think it’s fair to have Big Blocks in that contest; it’s obvious that it has a competitive advantage. I mean come on… how many cubic inches is that little girl in photo 4?
