Outlaw head tech - 14 years ago
I’ve known Dave Nelson for a few years now and he seem like one of the most honest and standup guys in the sport. I’m sure his letter was very well written and very well thought-out. I’ve watched Dave tech tractors and he’s thorough, meticulous, and unbiased. I don’t think he cares who’s name is on the side shield or who’s in the drivers seat, I think he just tries to do the absolute best joby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Question/Opinion - not red /green limited RPM Farm Stock Pullers - 14 years ago
Sascha, The rules look like a great combination that lets just about any brand or size engine be competitive. Is the 2.667 Air Restrictor on the inlet, outlet, or both? Is it measured at the housing, a restrictor plate, a restrictor tube? For some reason the terms “restrictor plate” or “restrictor tube” does not tend to be very popular over here in the US. Personally I think they are aby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: 4cyl and Big cube tractors in farm class - 14 years ago
Ford motors struggle to get very big and hold together. There’s only one GN class with a relatively low cubic inch limit, Light Super Stock…. Fords seem to do OK in that class! I’d expect to see some stout blue tractors in the NTPA’s new Light Pro Stock class (540 Cubic inch limit)by Jake Morgan - Forum
Water on an Alky - 14 years ago
I agree, I think for the most part the pullers are very proud of their rigs (and should be) and they are more than happy to show them off whenever they get the chance. Most of the alcohol tractors (both light and heavy) are as clean under the hood as they are on the outside. You wouldn’t polish your intake and your compressor covers unless you wanted someone to see it. They made alcohol befoby Jake Morgan - Forum

Re: Massey Red, with a Perkins Engine - 14 years ago
It’s always interesting reading how different people can interpret a simple compliment. I just reread my post and I could not find anything that implied that a Perkins can’t run, sorry if I came across that way, but that’s not what I meant (or wrote). Rather I was simply congratulating Carlton for making a Massey run like he has. I never meant or said it was impossible, just that right now noboby Jake Morgan - Forum

Last but not least, my Session 5 Photos are finishing uploading as I type. That should make about 955 photos betwen the two of us for the Farm Show this year, I hope everyone enjoys them. Dick's Session 5 Photos are up. Luck-O-The-Irish... I know St. Patricks day is still a month away, but with a truck as nice as the Challenger I just couldn't wait. It took more than just luck to get Dan Walsh and the Irish Challenger into the finals on Saturday night, actually it took him three runs just to get through the preliminary round, which is more than most people can say atby Jake Morgan - Forum

Dick's Session 4 Photos are now online. Another Red Tractor for this thread... here’s a shot of the immaculate “Extremely Insane” of Larry Phillips. Engler Chassis, Binderlite Sheetmetal, Crutchfield Components under the hood, and I think you could argue that it might just be the strongest LSS anywhere right now. My Session 4 Photos are finally uploaded. I’m working on getting my fathers pictures up now. I’ll jump right into uploading our Session 5 photos in about a half an hour or so. Here’s a shot of the beautiful “Never Giving Up” of Craig Ladwig. One look at a tractor this clean and well proportioned and it no surprise to see a K&K sticker on it. Re: Massey red , with a massey mortor - 14 years ago
Carlton’s runs were very impressive. I loved hearing that big V-8 screaming down the track. As for the motor and sheetmetal rule… well I couldn’t seem to find anyone who was really in favor of it. Most (all) pullers I talked with about it thought it was a joke of a rule. Thanks again to guys like Carlton for thinking outside the box and taking the time and the money to make that big Perkiby Jake Morgan - Forum

Things change in life and sometimes things don’t always go as planned. Last minute projects or appointments can easily derail even our best laid plans. I’m sure you’ve had to reschedule or cancel an appointment or two in your life. We need not get all “holier than thou” because a tractor had to cancel. Extra Weight? - 14 years ago
So the diesels need 600 pounds more than the alcohol tractors? That seems like an awful lot. It sure seems to me that Esdon didn’t need the extra weight last summer.by Jake Morgan - Forum

I believe he got excessive counseling for PTWS, because he didn’t let off just because a little chalk got in the way. It’s also possible he tried to avoid the sand pile altogether by trying to drive around it! (Sorry Mark) The track was hooking very, very, very hard to the left. Mark’s foot was on the right brake the entire run, but The Bomb wouldn’t come back around for him. I think he jby Jake Morgan - Forum

Kavan’s chirped the turbo almost the entire way down the track, it was a gear too tall. As for the fuel and water in SF, it’s the best thing that’s been done in that class in a long time. It’s nice to know that everybody is burning the exact same thing. I really enjoyed watching a pull knowing the results were based 100% on tuning and not any doctoring. Re: who's 7930? - 14 years ago
The 7930 is Brad Moss and Miles Stratton with the Youngbuck tractor. Tool Time 2 is a K&K tractor, I'm not 100% sure but I think it was either King of Deeres or Get-er-Dun of the Shremeks. Billet Blocks - 14 years ago
I’m working on an Opinion article right now regarding billet blocks (some may be very surprised by my stance on this topic!), but a spec/generic billet block is exactly where the NTPA is headed. It will be in a year or two, but mark my words: NTPA component tractors will be allowed a generic billet block. No bolt pattern rules, no crank swinging rule… just bore spacing and a cube limit (maybe dby Jake Morgan - Forum

Amen to that. Brand loyalty is key for tractor classes in this sport. If anyone really thinks pulling fans aren’t brand loyal they should walk around the Farm Show this week. They don’t just wear shirts with generic gray tractors, they wear shirts with John Deere, IH, Ford, etc… If it’s a John Deere 6030 with an International Harvester 1066 hood, what the heck are they going to cheer for? Thanks a ton for clearing that up Kevin. Glad to hear there’s no hassle with you pulling in 2010. I look forward to watching you a Patrice run those 903’s this summer. Re: I believe the rule book is the final word. - 14 years ago
Thanks for hte info Hagar. I’ll look up Larry and some other NTPA officials/reps in Louisville and see exactly where the rule stands and I’ll also see if I can get a 2010 rule book and see what that says. I read that post on the NTPA Tech page. First let me say I like Larry, I look forward to talking with him whenever I get the chance, and I think he’s been a steady rock for the NTPA. That being said, the NTPA rulebook is the final word, not the NTPA Q&A tech page. There may be more to Larry’s comments than he had time to type. PPL tractors are by no means antiques. If PPL continues to make hoods have a relationship with motors I’ll continue to support PPL. Re: cummins in a deere? - 14 years ago
Never did I say the sky was falling. I said I don’t like the rule… very, very, very (did I mention Very!) big difference. I’ve stated on multiple occasions that I don’t think it will make a huge difference for many fans, but it does for me. As of right now, I tentatively plan on only making one NTPA event in 2010. The reason for me is simple, I don’t like much of their product anymore. Somby Jake Morgan - Forum
