What valve lift for the 293 & 280?

My opinion is that puller1234 is way off. First, the counterweight is added OPPOSITE the rod journal to compensate for the journal weight & a percentage of the rod/piston weight. Many ag diesels (including I believe the 359 IH) have NO counterweight opposite the journal from the factory. I've been told (by So Ill Crank) that you can't fit enought counterweight between the pan rails o

Yep & that allows you to adjust the length a litte bit with an offset bushing.

The deck is 1" shorter on the gasser but that doesn't affect CID directly. They just needed to take 1/4" out of the piston compression height of the 362 due to the stroke change. I'm betting you can come up with a combo using gas rods & automotive pistons, the stock gasser pistons have a bunch of compression height.

In my experience the fire ring needs something behind it otherwise it pushes around. If you recess or cut the sleeve the block provides this. But if you're running the sleeve protruding from the block like it comes from the factory you need a gasket to do it. The orange is fine for sealing up the sheetmetal gasket but I don't think it will fill ~.040. Plus the fire ring would be ful

These are gas / LP. 4 main blocks. The 4010 & early 4020 are the wide deck blocks w/ bucket type lifters, the late 4020 has the mushroom type lifters. Not sure if the cranks will interchange between the early & late blocks or not.

OK, that makes sense...
So, aside from flowmeters how do you know how many GPM you need? I'm sure it's well documented for the automotive engines but tractor engines with turbos of various size & number, especailly the oddball engines would be a different story.

I understand what you are trying to do, but be carefull trying to be all inclusive. After a couple of years it's likely everyone will be at or close to the rule limits because they think that is what keeps them from winning. Those who can't or don't want to build up will quit. The point is if you have a bunch @ 505 & a couple @ 600 the 505 limit may be best in the long run if fe

I'm curious how not enough oil filter capacity will put air into the oil? I'm not disputing you but I can't see how that can happen unless with the relief ahead of the filter you get excessive recirculation back into the pan...

It's been pretty well documented on here what the rules are if you've been following the issue... I don't agree with everything they've done & I especially don't agree with this ruling on something that appears to be black & white in the rule book whether it was a performance advantage or not. I do think it's funny that when they went to the GT charger it was going

Rollers reduce friction but the biggest benefit of the roller cam is that it will be billet & therefore you are not limited to working with material that the factory left you. You can get a bunch more duration than a regrind.

Since the water is legally 'doctored' with crop oil I'm guessing that would mess this up.

If you do a similar amout of work to a BBJD head & a 55 series SBJD head & put both on a 4.875" bore, no probably not.
First, the difference between a SBJD & BBJD head is nowhere near the same as the diff between a SB Chevy & BB Chevy head. Second the current NASCAR SB heads are probably closer in design to the 1965 BB heads than the 1955 SB heads. Third the CID in NACASR was lowered to sl

You should contact Mike Otto in MO if you're serious about the gasser. He ran a moline on gas for several years... He's had some stuff for sale recently so his contact info should be there.

In a class that requires an OEM head & has a charger limit I don't see where the BB has any advantage. What about the Moline? They have a big bore too. What about V-8's? They do have more valves.

I agree that the current version of the Hyper block is not a huge advantage. However, do you really believe that it won't continue to get beefier? Maybe wider pan rails or room for more swing on the crank? A dry sleeve version? Taller deck? Raised cam? Does NTPA have the grounds to yank the 'approval' based upon any of these? It would still have the 'replacement' p

I predict LtPS & LtSS will be the high vehicle count tractor classes of the future in NTPA. Just as a core group of dSS & UlSS pullers stuck with it thru the PS explosion in numbers & popularity there will be 680 PS that stick with it too, but I predict that in a couple of years their numbers will dwindle to near what dSS & UlSS have now. LtPS will pick up SF pullers (especially some who droppe

I don't give a hoot about the doorslammers BECAUSE nothing matches. I dig some of the older bodies as hot rods but don't care enough to root for my favorite brand like I do in the tractor classes.

SF proved that if you let the turbo builders run free the cost will be high because there are plenty of pullers willing to spend it. It's happening in 3 x 4, 2.5 & 2.75 classes too. PS has proven that once you get turbine wheels bigger than availible from the OEM's the SF turbo looks inexpensive.
