The People put simply. We had been pulling on the GN circuit for the last few years and have gotten to know a lot of new people and have really enjoyed getting to know them all. This year we went back to pulling the RN circuit,at one of the first events we went to I remember walking through the pits talking with people that we pulled with before going GN pulling. It was refreshing to realize

Personally I think that there should be more single blown classes around the country as a place for guys to start. They have a class like this in Illinois as well as the thumb of Michigan. I'd like to see more of that.

First, the short answer is that the guys with the six cylinder tractors have people to go to if they want an engine. Evidently the guys that might want the v-8 might not have that opportunity. My friend decided to build his,he is a very expirianced puller and has been building tractors for many many years. He is spending a LOT of money and still can't seem to finish the project. He is not

To EAB, one reason that I heard was that the people that have them figured out would not build for anyone else. I have a friend that told me that he went to them to have them do just that and they said no. So he started building his own and has hit road block after road block. He is still trying to get cams made with no luck. Starting from scratch building new heads for a 903 is no small task

I'm not sure about others in the mod classes but I personally haven't given it a second thought and I'm not sure it would make much difference. TWD and 4WD might be a different story altogether. I will say that I feel that most of the top tier pullers in these classes take pride in the fact that they can drive their vehicles and resent the fact that others think they can't

So, we have two tractors with a total of four engines and we are supposed to tow them to a tech barn install four complete ignition systems then get them all timed correctly. Then when we are done tow them back to the tech barn remove said ignition systems. I'm not sure how good others are at doing this but it would take me and my wife a very long time to set up and time four engines. On

Helmet blowers work. I have to wear my glasses when I pull and fogging was a major issue. We run mod tractors and I'm not going down the track without my visor down. I've used a blower fan for my helmet for years and can tell you they work. Not only do they keep the glasses and visor from gogging but the side benefit is that they really cool down your head on those 90+ days. They m

I'm pretty sure most of the pullers in the pulloff are headed to Canton,Oh for a GN hook and didn't want to take a chance on hurting something. I was surprised to see that many good Pro Stock tractors to begin with at an RN hook with a GN the next night. Pulloff or not the fans got to see some pretty good passes by some of the top tractors around. Had the sled been just a little heavi

If you plan to add engines down the road you need to start with a SQHD center then add Franklin planetaries. They are lighter than cats and down the road you can add the light weight version that SCS makes. Also you have two different ratios to choose from. Franklin has a 4.0 and a 4.6 we use to run the slow ones for two engines and the fast ones for three engines.

There is power in a lot of places but not everywhere, the power is different in different areas some places have 50 and 30 amp but not many. There are a lot of places that have 15 or 20 amp outlets. There are a lot of big generators with panels but at times you will need a long heavy cord.

I think it would be great if they adopted a system similar to what some restaurants use where they text your phone when your table is ready. One of the hardest things for competitors is knowing when to get in line for the scales. It was mentioned a few years ago to use a paging system like they use in restaurants but that would be costly, useing cell phones and text would reduce the cost to n

We also use a helmet with vent and use blowers. It not only helps with the fogging but helps cool you off on those really hot days.

I think that these rules is the way I am leaning but would also add letting the big blowers in but with blower overdrive limits.

Matt,
I have to say that the class has stepped up quite a bit in the time you guys have been away. I really believe that anyone trying to run with 14-71s will be playing catchup all summer. I know you guys run hard but facts are facts and the big blowers are working.
I really hate what all dairy farmers are going through, that has to be about the most stressful way to farm out there.

Refresh my memory, what tractor with 14-71 blowers was running at the top of the class the last two years? I think the best any have done is Twist and shout getting a third at the Fort and Tarry winning at the Fort two years ago, if it hadn't started raining that wound likely not have happened. I know our tractors have not been running right the last two years but even if they were we wou

I am leaning toward allowing the guys that have the bigger blowers to continue to run them but with overdrive restrictions. That way these competitors have not wasted their money on blowers that they might not be able to sell (18-71) and it could be a way to make the 14-71 tractors competitive again. This will also allow the 14-71 tractors to continue to cross over to other mod classes. I a

I hear the same complaint with the Petro's in the two wheel drive class but there are times in RN competition that if they didn't show up the numbers would be very low. I think there are times on the GN where if the team you are referring to doesn't show up in the Lt SS or the heavy Unlimited SS the numbers would be very low...example Benson, NC. There just aren't enough tra

I've heard just recently that some pullers just weren't going to travel that far to events. I do know that a lot of farmers are hurting right now and are still in the fields.
I sometimes think about back in the 70s when pullers were traveling to the far west coast and down into Florida for events. It's a different atmosphere in the pulling world than it seemed to be back the

What open moving parts are you seeing on any mod tractors? We have all of the moving parts of our mod tractors covered with shields that are looked at by tech officials. We have block shields on our engines. We use more belt shields on our blower belts than NHRA. The entire driveline is completely enclosed in aluminum or steel shielding with a specific thickness and number of bolts holding

I hate hear that, your tractors are a great asset to the mod classes.
It would be great to see dairy farmers be able to make a living after all of their hard work and investment.
Good luck and we hope your situation turns around soon. We'd love to see you out there on the track.

My first exposure to pulling was at a county fair,we were showing horses but there was a tractor pull going on across the fairgrounds. I spent a lot of time watching the pulling that day. I've always loved tractors as well as lots of noise and HP so it all just really interested me. The first class that I really wanted to pull in was the Lt. SS class but I knew early on that I would no

I have seen some pullers over the years go to the extreme of trying to get within 5 lbs of the class weight and some that could care less if they were 100 lbs light of the class weight. My feeling has always been to loose enough weight to be able to run a faster gear would be a bad tradeoff. We once tried to run a RN Mod class about 1000 lbs light because we just didn't have enouh places t

I was very impressed as the competitors excepted their awards as to how they acknowledged their fellow competitors and most were very gracious. But the one that stood out the most to me was Stan Shelton. I think that they are getting better at the indoor shows, the first year was a bit of a cluster but much better now. I don't think they are going anywhere any time soon as they sell Saturday afternoon tickets to a crowd that likely doesn't care about most other classes. We have been going to the pull that the Sullivan family puts on in the spring for many years. They have changed venues several time over the years trying to better their event. One move they made was to move Into the northern Ky area in Burlington,Ky. The venue was very nice and close to a lot of population being within 30 minutes of down town Cincinnati. A few years ago they moved back towar
