When I was younger my family showed Quarter Horses, this took us to a lot of county fairs. Often times we would be in one area of a fairgrounds and on another part of the fairgrounds they would be having a tractor pull. I seemed to always migrate over to the pull between my show classes. We always went to the Indiana State Fair with our 4H Horses, so again I would migrate to the pulls. This was b

One reason you won't likley see more weight in the Unlimited class is the sleds and tires. They already have a hard time stopping them within a reasonable distance. I don't know how it is since Bauer changed his sleds two years ago but I know in the past they would have to borrow weights from a second sled to stop them on certain tracks. If you watch the distances they are usually cl

If I remember correctly they had two issues, they had trouble making weight and on a marginal track the front was too heavy. It seems that those were the things talked about, it was beast and fun to watch though.

cpr,
I think you do great job, was just curious how this fit in with the current established announcers. Good luck hope to see you out there.

That is a loaded question, it really depends on breakage. Some years you can get by with very little breakage other years something breaks every pass (my year this year). A valve breaking seems minor but by the time you replace a piston or two maybe the rods then the big expense and time of getting the head repaired.
If you run pretty often figure on freshening the engines each off season, ro

Stormy,
For a once or twice a year event sure, for a whole summer circuit, no way that will work. The lower two thirds of the classes will be gone after two events.

Opportunity knocking,
First off none of my comments are a knock against the Simon's for trying this, I just don't see it as a model that will work long term as some seem to think it should.
Just using my tractor as an example, I just had what I hope is the worst year I will ever have. Lots of relatively small dumb breakage not to mention not being able to get out of my own way at

Typically in every class at every level there are two or three competitors that are at the top more often than not. How long do you think the rest of the class will continue to donate? I know that I'm not a top tier tractor at the GN level, why would I do that? At the RN level I am a top tier tractor even then I'm thinking long and hard and likley wouldn't do it very often espec

I don't know the other two but I do know PK. Phillip Kelley, he pulls a Super Farm called Red Blooded Binder from western PA. He is the NTPA Super Farm committee chairman, from what I've seen having been a committee chairman myself he does a very good and thorough job in that position. In his real job he is a camera operator for TV broadcast for the NFL as well as NASCAR so he has a

A few thoughts on FullPull,
I think at times in this digital age we tend to expect miracles. I'm a pretty old guy and vividly remember as a kid having to wait months for the Puller magazine to come out to read the results of events as well as points standings. There came a guy about 20 years ago ( I'm totally guessing because I'm terrible with dates) called Pulltracker that wou

Full hitch, since going to 6200 we've not lowered our hitch as a matter of fact my wife's tractor didn't have all of the weight on the front at BG and still didn't carry the front a lot. Keep in mind we don't make the power of some of the tractors in class do and we are still running Firestones.

The short answer is yes.

Harold,
Have you noticed how many of the vehicles in the light classes have come within inches of wrecking the tractors? We're not talking about inexperienced pullers we are talking about pullers that have been at the top of their classes. I was leading the points last year until I couldn't make a decent pass at BG. Did I raise hell no but I did have a conversation with Big at BG th

TWD puller,
So what you are saying is that in the example I gave above where the whole class had weighed and checked the hitches before the event even started that they are supposed to wreck their tractors rather than be able to make a sensible adjustment? I would guess that if you were in this situation you would want a way to save your truck from almost certain damage.

First off I didn't know this rule existed.
We were at a Lt Unlimited hook in Hudsonville,Mi during the first year or two of the class. This was when the weight was 6000 lbs instead of the current 6200 lbs. Lowering the hitch was a big part of the game at the time. Tarry was first hook of the entire show so we had not seen any tractors on the track. We miss judged the track and she hi

I've said for several years that at some point in the not too distant future the two or three premier high dollar classes will become exhibition only. I hope I'm wrong but doing the work and spending the cubic dollars it takes to keep these machines on the track is very difficult. The old guard that is willing to do this is getting gray and thin just like my hair!

The GN Lt Mods only have 4 events with 2 hooks each so there are long stretches of calendar open to run other places. We run RN2 events when we are not running GN, we just add weight and go pulling.

I think I'd heard that Randy Davis had sold his mod and now has two Minis. He is very busy in his repair shop so traveling was always an issue for him. There is one tractor in Ohio besides the ones mentioned that told me he was running the GN Lt Mod but again he is a business owner who is very busy so time will tell. Often times a puller will make, a monster pass at some point during a show occasionally it will the test hook. If I am the test hook and make a pass that I know is very strong I really hope for them to look, a one more tractor before making a change, then they will have a better idea if it was a "monster" pass or not. As a driver I can usually tell if it was a really good pass even if it's

You might look into how the three speed on the American series of White tractors was shifted. They used a three way toggle switch on the console but I've never seen how the leaver on the three speed is moved to the different positions.

Grandpa's Disaster was fourth in grand national points last summer. They announced that Warpath had an issue that was discovered to late to repair. My guess is the American Thunder got in on reputation and the fans he might draw to the event. He always has topnotch equipment, it is very unusual for him to not make a good pass.

I think what might be overlooked is that a large percentage of successful pullers have successful businesses because of years of hard work, long hours, sacrifice and struggles. Just to name a few Mike Connie, Earl Wells, Roger Simon, Billy Biers, Wayne Purser are all examples of pullers who started their businesses from the ground up and worked very hard to make, them a success.

There are two that told me they are stepping up as well as one being built that likley wont be done for the start on next season. I agree that start time is important. I also think the pullers need to be aware and ready to go. There are circumstances that cause shows to start late IE weather, I think everyone understands this and would rather start late than not at all.
I do think the show should incorporate the power classes somewhere in the middle of the event, not necessarily at the start but after a class or two. On

To touch on the original post, I've been told by an NTPA official that they really want three Mod classes because more promoters want a mod class but two mod classes won't provide enough dates.
The Lt Mod class should have better participation this next summer. If everyone that I've been talking with follows through there should be no less than 11 tractors following the class t
