OH1979er,
One thing that I would disagree on is what you call knee jerk reactions. Let's just look at the turbo explosion, was the response knee jerk, maybe but for organizations to take the time to analyze the parts involved (if they could even get access to them, not likely) they are then allowing events to take place with onlookes thinking that they aren't responding at all to a trag

I think the face shield down is a recommendation not a hard fast rule. One reason is just what the last two posters mentioned, shield fogging. If the organization makes you put the shield down then you hit something by running off of the track because you can't see who is at fault?

Kent is good at the pulling game and has spent years improving his tractor. He's a very humble quiet guy and has things going his way, it's great to see. He also has a hand in many other good running tractors.

We've talked about it some but we are a small team and it works better for us at our age to make thing simpler not more complex. It takes a lot more time and effort to keep 6 engines maintained than 4. We really like running the Lt Mod and had hope that a good showing for the class at BG would entice more promoters to try the class. While having a decent number of tractors we put on a poor s

Stormy,
The track was definitely not TOO much for us in the Lt Mod class, when you run a tractor like ours with zero weight on the nose something is amiss, dirt, sled or a combination of both it for an embarrassing moment for us.

I am understanding that loose belts were the likely culprit in Andy's case. As drivers we tend to get into a routine when getting ready to make a pass down the track. I back up to the sled, tighten my belts, put on my neck collar, flip down my visor then tighten the chain and wait for the green flag. This past weekend I forgot my visor two out of three passes. I think I was so preoccupied

Jake,
I did make a pretty drastic change, I moved every weight from the front to the back, something I never done. Still having done that the front didn't try to lift until I was way up the track then it got too high but stayed hooked. We just didn't seem to get any weight transfer to our hitches from the sled.

Fan 13,
Not to throw anyone under the bus but we (the Lt.Mod/Lt Unlimited) have never had that ugly of a showing. There may not be a lot of us but most are top notch and well accomplished tractors with many many points titles at all levels amongst the group. Not to mention very experienced drivers that ALL had trouble getting down the track, we can't all be that bad at figuring out a track

When I was first contemplating getting into the mod class I looked at one for sale and asked the owner how much it wouud cost per pass. He said he had figured $400 per pass with a three engine mod. That was 20 plus years ago, I've never figured those numbers out but I can tell that every year when we do our taxes I'm shocked at the numbers and they aren't going down any time soon.

I just heard part of an interview with John Kerry where he said that in order to meet a carbon neutral situation by 2030 that the farming industry would have to come under control of the government because they produce about 30% of carbon emissions. WOW that is a scary thought...the government running agriculture!!! How could the government possibly do a better job of running agriculture when ev

Yes that was an awesome way to finish a show, lots of power, lots of speed and straight down the track. There is nothing better than winning on the last pass of the class.

With a little coaching I got though the online entry, it was relatively painless once I was told how to get past my one roadblock. To answer your original question as far as I could tell there is no lineup available to look at.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do the pre-entry let alone look at the list of entry's. I'll admit though that I'm pretty computer illiterate, I tried last night and seem to be missing something. I'm going to give it another try today, wish me luck so that I don't destroy my device of choice for the job! LOL

Dick,
I must be missing something, I find the PPL site very difficult to navigate and often can never find what I'm looking for. Granted I'm pretty computer illiterate but if I want to find any level of NTPA classes schedule I find it easy to find and navigate. It's likley because I look at the NTPA site a lot but just this week I wanted to find the different series schedules fo

I really like the Gater tractor over in Europe, running the twin V-12 engines with roots blowers. I think they are the only ones doing that anywhere. When it makes a strong pass it sounds awesome, nothing else like it.

We built tanks that is about 6" in diameter and 18" long out of aluminum pipe, on the inside is another pipe about 2" in diameter that is welded to the inside top. This inner pipe is then cut to about 12" long and vented out the top and down the outside of the tank. We run V-8 engines so we have two LB90 fittings set into the top of the larger pipe so it will start a swirling motion along the ins

We used to use straps but had issues with the straps working loose on longer hauls so we went to chains and binders. When we do use straps I like to use Mac's custom tie downs. They are very good quality and can be customized. They will make wheel nets to any size if you decide to go that route. macscustomtiedowns.com

Several years ago NTPA initiated a rule that we had to put on catch cans to catch blowby. After a short period they took away the mandate and said that it was recommended. The fear was that guys were building tanks between the front two engines of a mod, these tanks are basically full of alcohol fumes more than oil making them into potential bombs if an engine blows up throwing shrapnel through

Actually it was my old chassis with different engines and the pulley hit a fellow puller in the shin/calf and did a substantial amount of damage. She was sitting on a truck bed I believe at track side. If I remember correctly the pulley climbed up a concrete barrier then hit her. Not sure if it hit a barrier or if it bounced. The scary part was there we little kids all around her.

First off I don't think it is the same for everyone, those of us that run Hemi's have to change rods way more frequently than those running wedge headed engines due to the weight of our pistons. Bearing wear can be effected by tune up more than rods. For us at least the rods get changed at around 35 passes regardless of how hard we run because of heat cycles and fatigue.
We don'
