I'm not sure how much the 4600 will take but they have been run in some Lt SS and held up pretty well. We had to run a gear in the 8 speed that was not strong enough ( I think it was 6th ) so did we away with it and used a truck transfer case in its place to get our gear reduction. Some one like Bob Barbee could tell you a lot more about what they will handle. As for the mention below

We ran 88 reared for a long time but they don't like much over 700 hp, they will start breaking the back input shaft bearing support. We ran a 1650 with about 750 to 800 hp without much trouble,we did break a gear or two in the transmission over the years. As one sick puppy has mentioned the old co-op and cockshutt 40 reared are about as good as you can get. We also used a 4600 ford and

Hey Charley, long time no see. I say when you unhook the sled then you have race tactors. I just watched a video yesterday of tractor racing across the big pond, yes they were racing around a dirt track. I started pulling with farm stock and have worked my way up to the grand national level of pulling and I can tell you without question that it still takes a lot of skill at that level, more so th

We pretty much left the metal the same, just added another 2 foot section that is not attached to the original. We used the front axle, rearend, dash panel and the metal. We won a lot of pulls with that tractor. I drove it for a few years then my wife Tarry took over the driving. My email is tfeiss@perfectnort

We bought that tractor and turned it I to an econo mod,it was the first S'no Farmer. The engine was pretty much junk at that time. I don't think it even had the engine with it. I still have those tires out back, they had ground every bit of the rubber off between the cleats...uglyest tires you will ever see. We still have it sitting in the shop, we haven't run it for about 4 yea

Oliver 1650,
You mention that all of these other sports haven't changed their finish line so to speak. I'm not a big NHRA fan but if I recall they did change their finish line for their top classes, they did the opposite of what is happening in pulling. So changes do happen in other sports to help make the races and games more interesting for the spectators as well as safer for the dr

AlkyOliver,
I suppose the way I look at it most of the pullers you mention are used to pull stuff just like tractors. Why shouldn't they be able to compete pulling sleds as well. As for the mods, yea that may be a streach but we have fun doing it . From your name
It seems that you pull an alky fueled Oliver, there are a lot of people that think that that is not a legitimate pulling tract

I'm not sure what Chis means by "a better track" but I can tell you this, tracks don't come much tougher than that track. I know of 2wd pullers that completely change up their truck just to get some extra front end weight.

If you do a tracker be sure to get an automatic transmission, makes it much easier to tow a tractor. We used one for a little while and it worked good, when we changed trailers it wouldn't fit any more.

We have used a gas powered mule to tow our 7500 lb mod for the last 10 years. Has it been great, not totally as we have broken some ring and pinions and some axle parts. We likely still have less money spent on it than a Kabota, it's just annoying when it breaks and hard to find used parts for. Having said all of that it will tow our tractor with no problem and we have it way overloaded

Charlie,
We are doing great and business is good, thanks for asking. We didn't have to turn over the rearend on our 4600 and it was pretty easy to go direct to the pinion when we did away with the transmission. I made a mistake on my last post referring to a 5000 as to having hydrolic brakes, I was thinking of the 6000 when I mentioned that. We used some 6000 axles to build drives for ou

The last econo mod we built was a 4600 ford,it is the same as the 4000. The first two years we used the 8 speed Tran, when it broke we took it out and used a transfer case out of a truck. We should have gone with a Pro Fab 4 speed. The rear is very light and seemed to be plenty strong. The brakes are mechanical as opposed to the hydrolic brakes on the 5000 and worked pretty good. It was prett

I've never used water down there, I don't think it is availabe this time of year. They do have a dump station with a water supply that I think was turned on. I think I've seen people filling their water tanks at the dump station when they arrive.

We have done it for years, (this year will be our first year to not camp there for about ten years) they have electric hook ups or you can use your generator. I think last year it was $53 per night with electric. Usually it is not full so if you call soon you should be OK. The only bad thing is the UPS planes landing after midnight and taking off in the early am. One year I counted a plane ev

I don't really have an opinion that I want to express on most of this but I do think that people need to understand that NTPA is not putting on the pull in Cloverdale,In. The people that own the building are putting on the pull and NTPA is sanctioning the pull. Is NTPA pushing the pull Hoping for it to be a success, sure they are, why wouldn't they?

When I mentioned the tires being cut for 13 years I should have noted that those are the 10 ply puller 2000 tires, some of the first made.

It's both. The puller 2000 10 ply (they will have a small circle on the side wall that has a 10 in it) are heavier considered 10 ply. My old puller 2000 tires that have been cut on for 13 years weigh about the same as a set of HP tires that have only been rounded then cut about twice. From what I have heard the HP tires are considered 8 ply.

Bob, I think you bring up some valid points. I have been on both ends of the lineup situation at B.G. Usually you end up in a large cluster no matter what you do,teems that have multiple vehicles don't have much choice but to bring two or more vehicles to the scale, with one being very early. There are those that will go to the scale very very early then go someplace out of the way to fall

I have pulled the sleds in the Midwest mostly and on most of the tracks I have to drive my tractor out 50 or so feet and often go in the 320' range. When we go down to N.C. to pull the sled we use gives us a lot of hitch right at the start. That is fun but the problem becomes stopping us on the big end of the track. I often go 360' to 390'. When they let us get that good of a h

From what I'm hearing there will be more tractors and more hooks for next year. There is a proposal to add more money to the class for next year but time will tell if this will happen. I think the main reason most RN pullers don't step up to the class is that they would need to step up to bigger blowers, then run only two engines at the RN events. It can be done with 8-71 blowers but

When I was pulling my first tractor in about 1977 I was at a pull in Osgood,In. The Bob brothers were there with their D-21. When they were pulling the SS class they need a tractor to add weight to the sled. I volunteered to do it with my Oliver 88. I had to pull on the sled pan when they were pulling, then drive off of the pan so the sled could be towed back to the starting line. I would ju

We had a good time at the Rossville pull,it was our first time to hook there. It's a very unique place to hook. The only thing that would have helped from our perspective would have been to have two scales. There was a very long line and it made some of us very late to the track. Thanks for running the Lt. Unlimited tractors.
