Re: Should pro stocks run 30 in. tires? - 9 years ago

That's because if they give these tractors too much hitch at the line they get way to much ground speed in the first 100',then they can't be stopped until about 400'. I've been there done that. With my mods if they allow me to open the throttle at the line and carry the front right away we are going for a long ride. S'no Farmer

Re: Should pro stocks run 30 in. tires? - 9 years ago

I find it interesting that folks want to change tire size on any classes. We run the Lt. Unlimited class and spend tremendous amounts of money just so we can hold down the front of our tractors. Yes we need to feather the throttle coming out of the hole but that is just part of the driving game,it's one of the things that makes some pullers better than others. I remember BV saying that t

Re: Should pro stocks run 30 in. tires? - 9 years ago

We ran a three engine mod at State and RN events for years. There was a sled that we pulled down south that gave us a lot of hitch right out of the hole. All of the sleds up north we would have to come out at partial throttle to keep from blowing the tires off. On the sled down south we could open up the throttle right at the line. Now here is the problem,we would get so much ground speed in

Re: New Hampton, Iowa - 9 years ago

Looked at the schedule and they did change the whole event to an RN-5. We got a letter a while back that said they had changed the TWD class but since then they must have changed up the whole thing. S'no Farmer

Re: Louisville Camping - 9 years ago

We took our rv there for years, they have electricity and a dump station with a water hose to fill your water tanks if you want. I think it cost about $50 a night. Go to the KY fair and exibition center Web site to make reservations. We liked it because it was very handy to the show and pull with a nice close place to rest when you need to. S'no Farmer

Re: NFMS Part #3 Reflection - 9 years ago

I think one thing that could help with the fume problem would be to have the USS and Lt SS use a smoke tube. When the USS class runs they seem to be worse than the Mods and even if they aren't that is a possible solution to the breathing issues we have in the stands. As far as the hauler parking it looks to me like they could use the lot just across the road from the current pit parkin

Re: Team Chizek dominated! - 9 years ago

I worked at a power plant for many years and they had a backup fire pump engine that was an A-C. I'm not sure anymore as it's been a long time but as I remember it was a very large CI and it ran on gas. It had two spark plugs per cylinder. We would have to go out and run it about once a month for 1/2 hour,I don't think it was ever used for it's intended purpose. I always l

Re: Fumes Indoor Pulls - 9 years ago

I thought the worst fumes were from the USS and the LSS but that would be easier to fix than the Mods and TWD, just add a smoke tube to those tractors. I run a Mod and I don't see any easy way to fix that issue. I like all of the classes and don't want to see any of them kicked to the curb but it does get pretty intense the higher up you go in the seats. S'no Farmer

Re: cast a vote - 9 years ago

I'm not sure that there are a lot of people that try to buy there way to the top,yes there are a few but most of them are not successful. I will use myself as an example,we have pulled at some level since about 1975 with only a few years away to deal with those pesky children (just kidding boys). I put together my first few tractors, pulled at the local level, when it was time to step u

Re: cast a vote - 9 years ago

I would bet that if you had two tracks with a set of bleachers in between with the old stuff on one track and the new stuff on the other that most people would end up watching the new stuff. If they could only watch one track they would go for the fast tire speed and fast pulls rather than the slow steady old style pulls. I always liked the ingenuity of the old stuff but I really think the

Re: oliver rear ends - 9 years ago

I'm not sure how much the 4600 will take but they have been run in some Lt SS and held up pretty well. We had to run a gear in the 8 speed that was not strong enough ( I think it was 6th ) so did we away with it and used a truck transfer case in its place to get our gear reduction. Some one like Bob Barbee could tell you a lot more about what they will handle. As for the mention below

Re: oliver rear ends - 9 years ago

We ran 88 reared for a long time but they don't like much over 700 hp, they will start breaking the back input shaft bearing support. We ran a 1650 with about 750 to 800 hp without much trouble,we did break a gear or two in the transmission over the years. As one sick puppy has mentioned the old co-op and cockshutt 40 reared are about as good as you can get. We also used a 4600 ford and

Re: "Race Tractor" for sale on classifieds - 9 years ago

Hey Charley, long time no see. I say when you unhook the sled then you have race tactors. I just watched a video yesterday of tractor racing across the big pond, yes they were racing around a dirt track. I started pulling with farm stock and have worked my way up to the grand national level of pulling and I can tell you without question that it still takes a lot of skill at that level, more so th

Re: Looking for older White 2-70 puller original (silver bullet) - 10 years ago

We pretty much left the metal the same, just added another 2 foot section that is not attached to the original. We used the front axle, rearend, dash panel and the metal. We won a lot of pulls with that tractor. I drove it for a few years then my wife Tarry took over the driving. My email is tfeiss@perfectnort

Re: Looking for older White 2-70 puller original (silver bullet) - 10 years ago

We bought that tractor and turned it I to an econo mod,it was the first S'no Farmer. The engine was pretty much junk at that time. I don't think it even had the engine with it. I still have those tires out back, they had ground every bit of the rubber off between the cleats...uglyest tires you will ever see. We still have it sitting in the shop, we haven't run it for about 4 yea

Re: Sled speed? How about Full Pull? - 10 years ago

Oliver 1650, You mention that all of these other sports haven't changed their finish line so to speak. I'm not a big NHRA fan but if I recall they did change their finish line for their top classes, they did the opposite of what is happening in pulling. So changes do happen in other sports to help make the races and games more interesting for the spectators as well as safer for the dr

Re: 2wd at louisville - 10 years ago

AlkyOliver, I suppose the way I look at it most of the pullers you mention are used to pull stuff just like tractors. Why shouldn't they be able to compete pulling sleds as well. As for the mods, yea that may be a streach but we have fun doing it . From your name It seems that you pull an alky fueled Oliver, there are a lot of people that think that that is not a legitimate pulling tract

Re: NFMS Survey - 10 years ago

I'm not sure what Chis means by "a better track" but I can tell you this, tracks don't come much tougher than that track. I know of 2wd pullers that completely change up their truck just to get some extra front end weight. S'no Farmer

Re: tow vehicle - 10 years ago

If you do a tracker be sure to get an automatic transmission, makes it much easier to tow a tractor. We used one for a little while and it worked good, when we changed trailers it wouldn't fit any more. S'no Farmer

Re: tow vehicle - 10 years ago

We have used a gas powered mule to tow our 7500 lb mod for the last 10 years. Has it been great, not totally as we have broken some ring and pinions and some axle parts. We likely still have less money spent on it than a Kabota, it's just annoying when it breaks and hard to find used parts for. Having said all of that it will tow our tractor with no problem and we have it way overloaded

Re: The original BadCat - 10 years ago

Charlie, We are doing great and business is good, thanks for asking. We didn't have to turn over the rearend on our 4600 and it was pretty easy to go direct to the pinion when we did away with the transmission. I made a mistake on my last post referring to a 5000 as to having hydrolic brakes, I was thinking of the 6000 when I mentioned that. We used some 6000 axles to build drives for ou

Re: The original BadCat - 10 years ago

The last econo mod we built was a 4600 ford,it is the same as the 4000. The first two years we used the 8 speed Tran, when it broke we took it out and used a transfer case out of a truck. We should have gone with a Pro Fab 4 speed. The rear is very light and seemed to be plenty strong. The brakes are mechanical as opposed to the hydrolic brakes on the 5000 and worked pretty good. It was prett

We have done it for years, (this year will be our first year to not camp there for about ten years) they have electric hook ups or you can use your generator. I think last year it was $53 per night with electric. Usually it is not full so if you call soon you should be OK. The only bad thing is the UPS planes landing after midnight and taking off in the early am. One year I counted a plane ev

I don't really have an opinion that I want to express on most of this but I do think that people need to understand that NTPA is not putting on the pull in Cloverdale,In.
