What are examples of rare tractors? For example, my understanding is only 3 Cockshutt 580s were made, and only 1 exists.
Also, lots of D-21s were made, and many still pull.
However, before the iconic hood design we are familiar with was made, there were D-21 prototypes based on the D-17 and D-19 model. I'm not sure if any of these prototype D-21s exist.

I know you could get a narrow front on a 66 series IH, same on a 30 series Deere. Past that I’m not sure.
Don’t think a 6030 ever came with a narrow front, but I think I can remember at least one pulling that way.
I know John Bockwitz and Joel Armistead ran narrow fronts on their 6030s, and I believe Paul Frederich did also.
Most of the super stock G-1000s had narrow front e

If anyone knows:
1) What was the last row crop tractor made that a farmer could purchase from the dealership with a narrow front?
2) Are there examples of tractors that pullers ran with narrow fronts back in the 1970s, but were never available from the factory that way?

I don't want to lose a competition vehicle. My hope is Purser will run 5 in competition and add the others for exhibition passes.
Hopefully it will not run exhibition only, though it would be impressive to watch.

Where does Grimm from Ohio (Sassey Massey-maybe) come in?
Not sure when he built it, but both he and Soisson had turbine mids in 1981.
There was a guy from Nebraska named Marvin Kottman who also built one around then. I believe he was tough in the 5 mod class. Roger Kutz from Wisconsin also ran strong in the 5 mod.

The first one I ever saw in Pa. was Gary Mills out of Maryland. I think it was called One to Go but I could be wrong.
Arfons and/or Frock had a turbine at least by 1974, maybe earlier. Bob Bussey and (I think) Mike Miller each built one in 1976. There was also one in Iowa in '76 but not sure who ran it or when it was built. David Rothe in Colorado may have built his in '78-

Art Arfons is credited as the first turbine puller, but there was another man named Bob Frock also involved at the start.
Were Arfons and Frock teammates, or did they run separate tractors?
I never saw Mr. Frock pull and was curious how he factored into turbine pulling history.

If someone built an EV pulling vehicle, what is the maximum performance level? Lets say they can weigh 10,000 lbs, and have to conform to NTPA rules regarding safety, dimensions, etc?
I suspect an EV pulling vehicle's batteries would drain quickly, or the tech is not there to out pull a single charger diesel tractor weighing 4000 lbs less, but am truly unsure of just how much power an EV

Thank you. One more ? Several years back compact diesels were gaining traction. A couple ran in the mini rod class.
Are there any groups that run compact diesel classes? It seemed NTPA had some interest but shortly after we saw a couple of them, they disappeared.

I saw links to diesel garden tractors/compact diesels from Keystone. Is there only one diesel class, or multiple classes available?
Are rules consistent from organization to organization for these types of diesel classes?

Dirtfarmer, what you described is not exactly what I'm proposing.
The idea is for a class, not someone's vehicle. If the organization decides vehicles above 1200, 1500, 2000 or whatever hp number they choose, components are allowed in that class.
People may not know what Joe Blow's specific hp is, but as a group there should be a fairly realistic consensus as to the general

The organizations choose a horsepower number. Legal vehicles in any class with hp which exceeds that number, that class is allowed to have a component.
The controversy is agreeing on a hp number.
At least this way, there is a more objective metric to help make the decision. The hp number is subjective, but past that, the decision to allow or disallow components is taken care of.

What is a ballpark cost to build a new LSS including component chassis, good set of tires, 505ish engine with turbos, etc?
What is a ballpark cost to build a new competitive LLSS from scratch with currently legal setup (I use the term "currently" since rule changes get proposed so often)?

I don't believe that I ever said pullers need to move into the 5.0 PS class. I think over time the 5.0 class will grow from big PS moving and 4.1 class also moving into the class. I have other thoughts about the PS that I will post later.

I couldn't agree more, the PS class appears to have sufficient numbers now. I want leadership to sets rules that keep it healthy. Backing down on turbo size will in no way change what the fans are seeing from the stands. I say this not because another class is needed in addition to all the ones out there, just recognizing human nature. Someday soon a group will get together to start a new "limited" limited light ss class, maybe with a different name.
Weight will be between 5000-5500 lbs, one turbo, at most a 360 ci limit; maybe a 24.5 tire limit. When that occurs, we'll see how many AC 180s, Oliver 88s,

If you've never seen this class, it's like the extended wheelbase class back in the early 1980s, but in addition to truck bodies there are vans, I believe t buckets and maybe even a hearse (not sure).
Their class has at least 15 vehicles in KY and TN, maybe more. Is this a type of class that would generate appeal even to non-pulling fans because of the wide variation in the vehicle b

IMO the idea of DSS needs to go away and it needs to just go back to HSS, diesel and alcohol together. The focus needs to be on saving SS period. It is one of the foundational classes of pulling- it has the longest history and actually offers something different from the endless parade of single-charger diesels and blown hemis. Pulling as a sport should make its survival and

I'm all for eliminating single charger classes but seeing as how there are tons of big pros out there lets not mess with a good thing. Get rid of the 5.0's and get rid of one of the light/limited pro stock classes. Gotta keep super farm.
