Here is a nice video tribute to one of the true pioneers- Dave Stangle and the Solid Junk MM G-1000 with a few snippets of other tractors from the mid-70s.
If you are under 50 you didn't get to see him pull, but it would be worth your while to view the video. It would be nice to know just exactly how Ron Perry did the plumbing under the hood.

At noon eastern time on January 20, all pullers, crew, officials, and fans are invited to open a cold one (if your workplace allows). Even fire up your tractor or truck and make some noise or smoke if you like.

ATPA did not exist until the late 90s. SS and mods, 5, 7, 9, and 12 though there wasn't a 12 mod class per se, it was 12 unlimited or open where SS would pull with mods.
A couple pulls ran a 15 SS, Louisville into the '80s but they kept dropping the weight,, and Indiana State Fair through 1976 or so. Minis were an NTPA class approx. ,'73 or 74 onward, FWD added in '76 or so

PPL has announced a brand new class that will move the sport to the next level: the Limited Pro Stock Drone class.
Set to debut at select PPL events on the east coast, the class is sure to be a hit with fans. Teams from Russia, China, Iran, and how shall we say, pharmaceutical teams from Latin America have expressed an interest in the class.
Details like class weight, turbo size, and lower

Given it's an invitational. That said, they could take aspects of the NCAA model and say top X place finishers of PPL, NTPA, and Outlaws get automatic invites should they submit an entry, plus the prior year winner if that puller submits an entry. Kind of like conference champs getting NCAA Bball tourney invites. Maybe 1 hook classes get points champ, 2 hooks is top 2, and PS if they get 4 h

If pulling wants to appeal to non-farmers, maybe it should offer classes for what people actually drive. Therefore, I suggest a minivan class, an SUV class, and for the high rollers, an unlimited Tesla EV truck class.
For the small sleds, a Dixe Chopper class.
Around the north suburbs of Indy, we see more and more Tesla trucks these days. On a non-joking note, if a Tesla-style ev truck had

are you talking about a 12000 open class.
Not exactly. HSTPA had a mixed open class but at a lower weight. Pro Stocks may have hooked in it also. I don't recall if mods weighed 7200, 9200, or somewhere in between.

I have proposed that many times, but each segment would not consider compromise to, I think, make the truck class really exciting...Ford v Chevy v Dodge; smoke v alcohol; NA v blower v nitrous. I am all in favor of a mixed tractor class, too.
Bandit496, do you remember when HSTPA had a mixed open class? I know a SS beat the mods occassionally, but don't remember the weight

So, whatever happened to Laribee?
the super mod 4x4 class could be a fun entertaining class if more was to jump aboard if NTPA ever offered it again.
Imo, the way to go is not add a blown truck class by itself; it's take the Full Pull Productions Run What You Brung class which is the real Pro Modified class in pulling (not what PPL calls their n/a FWD mod class).

I think the class that the ntpa dropped was the fwd blower class. I think all the trucks were from Ohio
In the first version of the class around 1980/81, the trucks had extended wheelbases still seen in Kentucky.
It was not an Ohio-centric class. Temnessee (David Belew, Sonny Mc Mahon among others), Indiana (Joe Plummer, Jim Mowery and others), Kansas (Gary Shue, Dennis Butler

SS and mods have always been classes, but condensed from 4 weights to 1. Minis added in 74 or even earlier. FWD added in 1976. PS 80 or 81. SMFWD 81 or 82. TWD 83. Semis pulled at Indy Super Pull in 1980s but I never saw them in points standings. SF late 90'? SS split late 90s.

When performance gains, many times the next weakest link starts having failures.
For mods, supers, and all variations of pros, which parts do you think will become the weakest link that tend to break more often as performance improves in those classes?

I think mostly OSTPA. He has a stable. Lady Butterfly, Twisted Kitty. I think he ran 2 others in past years, not sure about this year.

Oh I’m sure there will be a rulebook out for everybody to look at when the time comes. If the guys in the class know what changes were made what does it matter? If your “building something” your already in the loop. The proposed changes aren’t sent out to the public to be debated and discussed. That’s stuff sent to members only. Give it time and it’ll be released. I mean, we’re s

The op does have a valid point. In past years, NTPA had the results posted quickly.
Maybe competitors in classes where changes were made already know how the voting went, but publishing the results would be a good move.
