Re: 505-510 Light Pro Stock - 15 years ago
I agree with 007, but we need to start somewhere. We need a 505-510 cubic inch diesel option. We need a NASCAR class that somewhat represents what tractor companies are producing today. The sport needs to start it's future plan now.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
I agree completely, I think it really comes down to four options to get more brand variety: Fix what’s broken (leadership has no spine to make any changes, many pullers would ride a dieing horse to the edge of a cliff, instead taking the smaller horse down the path to a future) Deal with the hand we are dealt and just look the other way (meaning write rules that allow “color” but it’s reallyby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
I was only a few feet from Boxler and Early when they let go so you don’t need to tell me what a block can do. By the way, that fiberglass hood on The Special did a pretty darn good job. Yes it blew off, but it captured and contained the engine parts. I’ve also seen a block break on a tractor that had tie downs. The tractor shook, and you could tell it was major but everything stayed underby Jake Morgan - Forum

I’m finally in front of my own computer today and I’m uploading my National Farm Machinery Photos from Session 4 and Finals photos to my server right now. My camera had a minor focusing issue all week in Louisville so I had to zoom out a little further than I would have liked. My camera is coated with dirt and dust from approximately five years of pulling photos and I think it’s finally timeby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: THe NTPA failed - 15 years ago
Thanks for the well written post David. Personally I think the hyper block is completely unnecessary. The IH pullers have not even come close to exhausting their options as far as reinforcing the block is concerned. As David stated, If the AC426 can be tied together as Youngblood has proven, then there’s no reason the DT466 can’t be reinforced as well. The Hypermax block is simply about mby Jake Morgan - Forum

I agree, I can't wait to see the Euro Pros in person some day. I honestly believe that fans “feel” RPM’s more than they do torque. From a purely marketing standpoint; high RPM classes would be much easier to sell. As mentioned earlier there are some great limited RPM classes, but I think if fans were given a choice (especially new fans) they would probably prefer the high RPM class overby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
How can you tell it’s a stock block… that's like asking how can you tell what block is in it because the tractor has side shields! True fans, farmers, other pullers can tell a stock block the exact same way they can tell there's not three turbo charged V-8's under the side shields of a MX335 hood, it's the tech program and its careful observation. It’s also a trust issue, thby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: 2009 NTPA GN Precommit list here - 15 years ago
They had 20 hooks and a number of LSS pullers didn't like the schedule. The number of hooks has drop to around 15 and I would expect the list to fill up very quickly.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
In Nascar the engine is manufactured by Ford, Chevy, Dodge Toyota... just like it should be. Just like a Super Stock and Pro Stock should have engines manufactured by the original maker. I don’t care if it’s a Cummins, Detroit, IH, or Deere, as long as it came from the factory like that. I would argue that the Twd truck class would have much more brand loyalty if they had stayed with a manufby Jake Morgan - Forum

A 600 is still a BIG cube motor. We need a high performance diesel class for 505-510 cubic inch motors. Ask a Ford or AC guy if 600 is a BIG motor!by Jake Morgan - Forum

The smoke tube did not break during a class, but there were a few tube repairs this year. The Farm Show has a very good schedule which allows repairs in between classes. The were a couple of occasion that I notice some tube repair going on during an alcohol class just after the first diesel class had finished, but they seemed to be minor repairs. Thankfully not a single repair affected the shoby Jake Morgan - Forum

Maybe you’re new to the page but I’ve stated numerous times that I think motors and sheetmetal should match. By the way, it’s not just Magnums, but MX’s, MXM’s, Puma’s and now even 1206’s with a DT466, where does it end? The other brands aren’t any different either, it’s way out of hand, and getting worse every year. I honestly believe we are not far from an Agco hooded Deere, or worse yet, aby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
It's the fact that we disagree that makes this page fun! Thanks for the great posts. As for safety, I think there are plenty of ways to make a stock block as safe as possible. Shrouding and tie downs can be engineered to contain anything in a worst case event.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Turn Me Loose (PS) at NFMS - 15 years ago
If Turn Me Loose was DQ in the pulloff he would have gotten second. Guess what, he got second. If Turn Me Loose had beaten El Nino then I think the committee would have given him a DQ, but he got second no matter what so there's no point in complaining about it. It put on a good show and gave a little drama to the finish, lets just leave it at that, it didn’t affect the results at all.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: 505-510 Light Pro Stock - 15 years ago
You're definitely right about the foreign tractors adding some excitement... I know I was curious to watch the alcohol SS class to see how the Dutch motor would perform. I’d love to see the Farm Show chip in a little money to get the Bit’s and Pieces tractor(s) over here some Winter so we could see how the complete European tractors compare. Re: 505-510 Light Pro Stock - 15 years ago
A 505-510 class won't be any more economical at the top tier. The top guys will have just as much into a 505 as they do a 680. However, here the big BUT… It might be cheaper for the guys looking to start out and finish at the back of the pack. They might be able to jump in the class with a few less expenses. The limit will always be what you can spend. Europe proves it can be more divby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: tired of it - 15 years ago
Actually they have a tractor class for billet blocks, it’s called Modified. Build a huge billet block any size you want and put whatever hood on you want and go pulling. Go crazy and put the biggest billet steel chunk you can, make it 1200 CID, put 500 lbs of boost to it, with three billet pumps. Make it into a 6030 Deere, wait, I take that back, I think I like 5010 a little better. Or you coby Jake Morgan - Forum

Announcing at the NFMS - 15 years ago
I have one piece of constructive criticism for all announcers, but this also relates to the NFMS: Don’t talk while the tractor is coming up on RPM’s! I love to listen to the turbo spooling up, I love to hear when a tractor goes from the choppy-idle sound to the smooth, ever higher revving, until it finally lights sound. My advice is don’t talk while they are building boost, there are two reasonby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Poll #2-- How do you rate the vehicle selection for the NFMS-- - 15 years ago
I’d give the selection committee a B. I thought there was great variety of new faces mixed in with the regulars. I can think of a few guys that I would have liked to see in a few classes, like Blagraves Red Horse, it probably made the finals more times than anyone except Esdon, but I also enjoyed seeing some different variety in that class. Overall I really thought the committee did a good jby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Poll #3-- How do you rate the 2009 NFMS-- - 15 years ago
I thought the pull was in the B category until the finals. I thought the sled setting in the Mod and Alcohol super class were both off. We were sitting there in disbelief when they didn’t reset the sled after Purser’s first run, he could have taken the sled back to Oklahoma with him if he wanted. I wasn’t the least bit surprised to see every mod easily go out the end. I know people thinkby Jake Morgan - Forum

I personally think the US needs a high performance 510 CID single charger diesel class. I think almost every diesel fan would really enjoy a colorful high RPM class here in the US. Bigger isn't always better, Nascar lowered cubes and moved the sport forwards, Indy cars continue to lower cubes and move the sport forwards, NHRA lowered cubes to move the sport forwards. Re: Bill Vories?? - 15 years ago
Horsepower is obviously a huge part of the game, but horsepower is only part of the equation, American Thunder was setup better than any tractor in the class. Both runs were picture perfect, Bill picked one front tire an inch off the ground and the other front tire a few inches and he was off to the races. No wheelie bars, no hooking/unhooking, not even the slightest bobble. I honestly believeby Jake Morgan - Forum
