Back in the day I had to wait months for the Puller magazine to come out to find out results, these days I can usually look on my phone when I get back to my hauler to see where I placed. Yes there are times when the results don't show up for a day or so...I'll take that over waiting two months when I was a teenager! Yes I am THAT OLD!!!

I really like the Gater tractor over in Europe, running the twin V-12 engines with roots blowers. I think they are the only ones doing that anywhere. When it makes a strong pass it sounds awesome, nothing else like it.

We built tanks that is about 6" in diameter and 18" long out of aluminum pipe, on the inside is another pipe about 2" in diameter that is welded to the inside top. This inner pipe is then cut to about 12" long and vented out the top and down the outside of the tank. We run V-8 engines so we have two LB90 fittings set into the top of the larger pipe so it will start a swirling motion along the ins

We used to use straps but had issues with the straps working loose on longer hauls so we went to chains and binders. When we do use straps I like to use Mac's custom tie downs. They are very good quality and can be customized. They will make wheel nets to any size if you decide to go that route. macscustomtiedowns.com

Several years ago NTPA initiated a rule that we had to put on catch cans to catch blowby. After a short period they took away the mandate and said that it was recommended. The fear was that guys were building tanks between the front two engines of a mod, these tanks are basically full of alcohol fumes more than oil making them into potential bombs if an engine blows up throwing shrapnel through

I can't say for sure where Ryan's tractor went but I'm pretty sure you will see it in OSTPA and maybe some RN 2...thats their story to tell. Austin's tractor is our old S'no Farmer Xtreme, he has made a lot of changes to it and yes it runs really

We had best early season (before Christmas) ever then an average mid-season...then things come to a pretty less than ideal end. Over all it was a very successful ski season.
As for how we got started, a local college student had done his senior thesis on what it would take to build a down hill ski facility in Southern Indiana. Paoli Peaks had opened a few years earlier. This student and a fri

Actually it was my old chassis with different engines and the pulley hit a fellow puller in the shin/calf and did a substantial amount of damage. She was sitting on a truck bed I believe at track side. If I remember correctly the pulley climbed up a concrete barrier then hit her. Not sure if it hit a barrier or if it bounced. The scary part was there we little kids all around her.

First off I don't think it is the same for everyone, those of us that run Hemi's have to change rods way more frequently than those running wedge headed engines due to the weight of our pistons. Bearing wear can be effected by tune up more than rods. For us at least the rods get changed at around 35 passes regardless of how hard we run because of heat cycles and fatigue.

I think one of the things that is missing from this pulloff vs no pulloff discussion is not so much a pulloff now and then but the length of the season and the real life wear and tear on parts. Years ago when beyond 300' was a pulloff I found myself in pulloffs at about every third event, when you attend a lot of events these extra passes add up to real wear and cost in regard replacing rods

What I know,
The other thing that make these comparisons difficult is tires. If today's super farm tractors were running old style pulling tires they wouldn't hook nearly as hard and therefore spin the tires harder plus they would have to run a different gear because of the way the old sleds worked. Because of those two factors the modern SF might be closer to the old PS that we migh

Nikita Khrushchev the former premier of the Soviet Union predicted the the US would become communist not today, not tomorrow but after a long period of tiny little steps. I just had a very long Facebook post about this very thing. In short I feel like AB is forgetting who their core customers are. Where are the women who fought so hard for their rights when I was young...they should be outraged! Unfortunately I think most of th

I don't know much about turbo sizes but I do remember a little bit about when the class got started. Someone with more knowledge feel free to correct me. There was a father and son team in Ohio that ran two SS 806 Farmall's named Dale and ???? Kohl, they wanted the NTPA to have a class that was more affordable and pushed for a single charger class. The PS class was created as well as

Seeing as how my wife use to work at P&G we had stock and she could vote for board members to the extent she owned stock or she could send in a proxy and let so eone else vote her shares. When the original shares in NTPA were offered each buyer was limited to I think one or two shares. The way David P. got control of NTPA was by gaining proxy voting rights for many share holders. Our involvement with Tom started during our second year of pulling our economy hot rod tractors. This would have been about 1991, he approached me in the pits at a pull in Georgetown, KY and asked if I would interested in running a points series the next summer. There was a meeting at some point that fall to set rules for the classes. This was the first time I can remember any type of organizat

The answers to your questions depend on a lot of variables. Some blown V-8 engines make 1200 HP and some make 3000 HP. The weight you run at will make a difference as well as tire size. If I recall correctly some SS pullers had to go to a different rear-end as they were breaking the 4600 style rears. I don't know what HP they started to fail, maybe someone can post those numbers.

I ran a 4600 rear and transmission in an econo-mod at about 750 HP, eventually the transmission broke. I then went direct to the rear and it held up I even ran a blower engine in it a few times. To answer your other question it should be the same or very similar to the later 4000s. Mine has pretty good brakes, I didn't do anything different as far as brakes.

Haha,
So Haha this conversation started over TWD tires...do you build your own? Your own blowers, turbos, blocks, heads ,rims? Not trying to belittle you in any way, just pointing out that most pullers buy most of their parts. Some fabricate more than others, some put more of their stuff together than others but we ALL rely on others to get on the track. Some of the very best on the track do a l

Russ came very close a couple of years ago to winning the points in both organizations before he had his own tires. I felt like the weight change was easiest and the first time out it was pretty close. My suggestion was to have a sticker on the back of the tractor, this was done with OSTPA and stated what the blower OD, hitch height and weight should be for the tractor. Those things are a moot point since the Lt Mod class was brought about to replace the Lt Unlimited.

To kind of elaborate on your last statement, Gregg Randall has pushed hard to have three mod classes because he has promoters that want a mod class and either don't want the expense of the top two mod classes or their dates won't allow it because they are already scheduled somewhere else. I think that is the only reason that the Lt Unlimited lasted as long as it did. Now they have ste
