The diff lock tractors also used a different side gear in the differential so you can't use one without the other.

running dry ur head might last half as long as running wet
Might last twice as long too. Seen it both ways. Heads crack regardless particularly if one doesn't use their "head"

Pro's
1. Saves unnecessary expense
2. Has no effect on performance of pass or reliability of engine parts.
3. Decluttters engine compartment.
4. Weight savings
5. Reduced maintenance.
6. Reduces electrical system draw and requirements
Con's
1. Cool down time is extended
If you aren't trying to run 3 classes per night with a pull off, I see no benefit to a w

So are you allowing a 1% over or not. And why wont you alow a p pump on the 400-480 if the other pump hAve to back the fuel off? Just trying to save a little bit more mony for the class
What would you be saving money on with a p pump?

Strictly a judgement call. If you think the engine will be torquey go with the faster package. If not I'd go slower with the gear package.

OK if your pretty decent engine and turbo likes to turn a lot of rpms, you are plenty fast and possibly to fast as you are. If its built for bottom end torque and not a lot of rpm then you are likely to low geared. If you don't know your best bet is to follow dairy blend's advice and just run direct until you figure out where you are at so you don't waste money on stuff that does

Yeah but wouldnt Chisek just put a 10:1 or some crazy fast gear in it and still beat the crap out of you?
Congrats you are the winner of completely missing the point

Biggest advantage to a component is chassis flex. Cast bolted to cast bolted to cast doesn't flex.

Just to clarify, in no way am I arguing ease of service and yes outside of a few brands parts availibility is an issue as well. However done right reliability can be similar at llss horsepower level, particularly if weight doesn't keep dropping.
Actually your analogy of component parts inside an ag rear is wrong. There is a difference, and a quite large one at that.

I respectfully disagree, those willing to spend the money will figure out how to make it work regardless of the weight. It might even it up for a little while but it'll revert back fairly quickly.

Because they believe they can compete with the high horsepower tractors with their lower horsepower tractors if they make them weigh less.....

They seem to use a little bit of everything as far as ring and pinion goes. How your engine is set up to run dictates your best gearing packages. You can message me on here or my # is on my profile if you need more info

It'll have to carry some decent rpm to be fast enough, however if you don't make pretty good torque faster gears won't be the anewer either
