Part of it depends on how much power you plan on making and what surface you will be pulling on. There used to be several of that type that pulled on blacktop, they generally used and automatic ahead of the tractor trans. Later pulled on dirt and needed a lot more power and much different gearing(custom) and tires.

If someone calls me about studs I tell them, if it Hot Farm or a lower class just use the OEM bolts. Properly lubed and torqued studs give about 20 to 25% more clamping force over OEM bolts. One of the advantages of studs is wear on the threads in the block at any rebuild.

I am not good at posting links, should practice.
The easiest is to go to my website, Fanta-Machine.com , then click on "Tractor pullers and engine builders", that will take you to a page that has pointers to some of the videos. The site needs updating as we have other items besides studs.

Please don't do that. Both ARP and the ones we make here yield at the equivalent of 230 - 240 FP, you have little left over for reserve.

I make them and sell them, do not over torque them! If you torque over about 180 FP on a 9/16 stud you have little reserve before it yields. Use ARP Ultratorque lube to get the best clamping force. I tested different lubes and found it to be the best by about 10% on clamping force.

TLDR. How hot does an aluminum head on an alcohol burning engine get during a pull? This is mostly for tractor engines but could apply to others.
Long version. I was talking to a customer about some studs and we talked about how the head grows in height compared to the stud because of thermal expansion. I would like to determine how clamping pressure and its relation to applied torque and fast

Fanta-Machine.com has a list of the stud testing videos on the second page. The videos are a bit boring, maybe skip #3, but see #1, #4 and #5 especially.
Custom lengths are not a problem, we stock 9/16 from 4 3/4 to 12" long in 1/2" increments. All rolled thread. One of the videos tests the difference between rolled and cut thread. Other diameters and mixed inc

I have some blanks cut out ready to machine. Are you looking for studs or tapped holes? Tapped are cheaper, studs are easier to mount the wheel. 608 675 3325. These are weld ons.

I uploaded some videos on Youtube for the wrench turners out there. We make custom engine studs and I thought to do a few tests on clamping force and got a little carried away. There is a little advertising in there so there is some spam content but there is a lot of interesting data. Search on Youtube for Engine Stud Testing at Fanta Machine. Lets see if I can include a link here.

ARP calls for 125 FP for the mid grade and 140 for the very high strength. The 8740 studs should be the mid grade at 190K PSI .
From my tests you gain about 5% more clamp with ARP lube.

What size are the bolts?
ARP has a generic torque table on their website.
Use their lube. I did some tests with clamping force at rated torque and their lube was the best of what was tested. I plan to put the tests on Youtube when I get done with the editing.
