As has been previously mentioned in other posts, the 4020 trans case is about 1" longer than a 4010. You will find that there is almost NO interchangeable parts even though they appear similar and operate the same. The gears are ALL slightly narrower in the 4010 case, so the shifters and pattern are just slightly off from the 4020 as well.
Not sure this is the news you wanted.

You should be able to save around 100 pounds per wheel by going aluminum if you are talking about 16-18x38 wheel.

4320 and 4230 are a little heavier built than 4020. Only a few select parts swap between 4020 and 4320/4230, and 4010 has only a few that are universal as well (mostly synchros, shift collars and such). All gears are slightly thicker/heavier from 4010 to 4020 (4020 trans case is about 1" longer than 4010), and like wise from 4020 to 4320/4230.
If you are cranking much HP at all, you will want

Unfortunately, you are likley exactly right about the cookie cutter class with billet blocks. Nobody wants to admit it's coming, though. It's been on it's way gradually for the sevearl years, and NTPA made a huge stride towards it with their ridiculous sheet metal/engine rule a year ago.

Safer for sure.
Cheaper, most likley. Depends on what Ag make/model you are starting with, but i still believe it would be cheaper. The bit of research I have done on the matter says it is definitely the smarter way to spend your money while building. Gives options for the future if the correct planning is made. Four or Five years ago, I might have had a different opinion, but the more work yo

Sounds like a reasonable step by allowing components and not changing CI limits at this time. That is essentially what I proposed, but had no takers.
There seems to be a disconnect for people with understanding how much $$ you are investing in a reliable Ag trans and rear (needling, custom gears/shafts etc.) vs buying or sourcing the correct components. The frame becomes much easier to fab as

Jim, is it Robert's that has taken over Watson's, or who are we talking about here?
Not surprised to hear the mentality, Deere has done the same thing around here (as you have seen), and CNH is getting in the same boat now as well.
They will find that the big guy isn't always the most stable guy (been said on here already), not to say all of them, but there have been a great

Yep, you're right about the diesel truck guys and breaking the shaft an HX40's. Not sure what level you can run one to and have it still live. Most Cummins pick-up guys I have talked to love the s300 based Aroura charger.
I would agree with slugging down the HX 50, though.

You might want to take a look at the HX40, I am pretty sure it is 2.3" comp, unsure of turbine side. If not, slug the HX50 down.

I agree with your comment on the R&D work for pulling, but it is very expensive. I shudder to think where it is currently going given the direction of the National orgs!! I've said it before (and I don't like the idea), but how long until the first "common" billet block & head combo is out that everyone has to use and build from there?

I think I understand what you mean now.
FYI, I was not jumping for joy that the US tractor had issues, as I said, it was sounding pretty good leaving the line. I just wondered if there was an exception for the two chargers or if they are allowed in your club now.
Catch you another day Jim.
Shawn.

I guess having to pull against a twin charger tractor in the class wouldn't help that situation much either?
I didn't know you could have two chargers in your 7000 class??
Unfortunately it didn't matter, something went south (big bang) on it anyways. It sounded pretty good leaving the line though...............

So if there was someone running a "Hyper" re-cast head (like maybe the old "Pro" head), how is that OEM in LIGHT PRO (if in fact this is really happening like so many have said)??? This or any other "re-cast" head would never have been offered as OEM, so how should/could it be allowed?
The rule seems pretty clear, but then again, it doesn't say no re-cast heads. There will always be thos

It is unfortunate that there was no clarification of any kind on the Light Pro cylinder head issue. Guess we'll see what happens next year, but I have to agree that it should make interested parties think twice about what to do.
A National club like NTPA should be somewhat of a benchmark for smaller clubs to take direction from, but I have to say that over the last few years, that is cert

Maybe their (Interstate) schedule was conflicting, they have quite a few hooks.
You may have a point with the safety related idea, the indoor hooks are a little different when it comes to that.
