Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

The advantage to the orifice method on fuel is the simplicity of enforcement, no measuring required, pick a pill from the tub and put it inline with the fuel supply, no muss no fuss.

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

Turbo rules and limits are fine, but those are routinely defeated and end up with expensive hybrid turbos.

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

The idea was to have a "limiting" function that could be easily monitored, similar to the RPM chips that are used with ignition systems.

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

Different engines use different pumps and making everyone change their engines to use the same pump would be prohibitive, in my opinion anyways.

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

On the charge pump or supply pump might be a good approach, it should help reduce the cavitation issue.
by RCP - Pulling Forum

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

That is an approach, unfortunately the only way to know plunger size is to disassemble the pump.

Re: Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

The point about cavitation is a good one, I will have to give that some thought, pressure drop through the orifice might cause air to come out of solution or create a pressure below the vapor pressure of the fuel.

Fuel Flow Limit - 6 years ago

There have been several attempts to introduce entry level diesel classes at a local level with restrictions on injection pump type, turbocharger, tires etc. Inevitably the class rules escalate to allow the use of better pumps, better turbochargers, better tires etc. The one idea I haven't seen is to limit fuel flow with an orifice on the inlet to the injection pump. A properly sized orifice

I do in Antiques, but I always felt I was at a disadvantage to 18.4 x 38s. Rich

3LM466 Oil Feed Restrictor - 6 years ago

Does a 3LM466 turbo require an orifice (restrictor) on the oil supply? Thanks Rich

Re: Glenford , Hot Farm and Too Hot To Farm in Ohio? - 6 years ago

Loudonville, Ohio Street Fair tractor pull is Oct 4 this year. Right now we run what we call Modified Farm Stock at 7700; 10500 and 12000 lbs. We also run a 8 MPH farm stock at 13000 lbs. That is good news, I hope to bring our Oliver 1950T to Loudonville this year for the 7700 # Modified Farm Stock.

Re: Water Injection Systems - 12 volt - 6 years ago

Good point, of course the tank wouldn't be pressurized until the engine was running. Rich

Re: Water Injection Systems - 12 volt - 6 years ago

Is it possible or reasonable to pressurize the water tank with turbo boost and then use an electric pump to help push the water? This approach would require a solenoid valve to prevent water injection under low boost conditions. Thanks Rich

Re: American farm pullers and Glenford lions club - 6 years ago

The line has to be drawn somewhere, why not at the 3LM466 turbo? Is it not durable or dependable? Rich

Re: Pull at Freedom Hall in November! - 6 years ago

I understand, I was only pointing out that the rules didn't jive with diesel ban. Rich

Re: Pull at Freedom Hall in November! - 6 years ago

The add says no diesels, but the LLSS rules have specific requirements that only apply to diesels. Rich

Oliver 1850 Transmission - 6 years ago

We pull an 1850 with a 5.9 Cummins with a straight shaft. We need a gear in between 5th and 6th, what would you recommend, BTW I do not want to loose 5th or 6th gear. We load onto a deckover trailer, so I need to have a gear for loading. Thanks Rich

Re: BG -WPI/Blue Shirts - 6 years ago

You guys have convinced me that I do not want to go to Bowling Green, drive all that way, pay motel bills, fuel bills, meals and tickets with no refunds and no rain date if the pull is rained out. Sounds similar to playing the lottery. Rich

Re: If you could change (1) one thing about pulling? - 6 years ago

I would like to see more cooperation across different organizations in terms of rules and schedule dates. In our area, it is not unusual to have three pulls in a 50 mile radius on one weekend and no pulls for the next two weekends.

Re: Western Pa Light Tough Farm - 6 years ago

Tractor pulling is not fair, pick your combination and go pulling. This is not what we call to hot to farm, in this class cubes are limited to 360. Rich

Re: Western Pa Light Tough Farm - 6 years ago

All tractors are required to run a rotary pump, UNLESS the tractor shipped from the factory with something else. The obvious engine choices are (IH) DT360, (Oliver, White, Massey) Perkins 354 and (almost any brand) Cummins 5.9, I am not fluent in JD or other brands to know what fits for them. Rich
