As a sled operator, I've never personally hooked the combined class. But I have to think the 4.1's have a bit of an advantage with their weight & torque. Light pro's will get up & fly on a good track but sort of jump out of the ground on the big end where a 4.1 can run just as fast but will lug & tug better than the light pro's. Just my $.02 worth....

You can have a 7 without pushdown. Right now the difference between a 6 & a 7 is whether or not the box rollers are on top of the rails or in between the top & bottom flanges of the rails. If the box is on top of the rails, it cannot be classed higher than a 6.

Logan:
Can you talk about % of weight transfer between your sled and newer models?
Thank you,
Bobby Maxwell
There really isn't any difference in the performance of the older Bauer sleds versus the newer sleds. Maintenance in the areas of grouser bars & the hydraulics of the pan functions (drop speed & keeping the accumulator charged appropriately) are the only things t

Very rarely is a nose weight used for a mod or a semi. The purpose of the nose weight is to give the vehicle more drawbar to hook quicker & get up to speed quicker, thus making a vehicle like a mod or semi harder to stop. Sometimes we have no choice but to add the nose weight, on looser tracks where the sleds slide easier, weight is the only option without tripping the pan extremely early or shif

I operate the red General Tire Decision Maker sled, which is a Bauer Built sled, and I have hooked the PPL mod class several times. My father owns Thumb #11, built in 1984, and has been hooked to the likes of Tim Engler, David Banter, John Heilman, etc.... I can tell you first hand, even with updates & improvements to his old sled, the speed & the beating & banging of even a light pro has broke h

prostockpuller,
It wasn't our sled that broke, it was Predator Sled Rental, also from Scottdale PA. I was supposed to be at the PPL event in Michigan over the weekend so it was just a fluke that I was able to come in & help out John Creasy. (Owner of Predator Sled Rental). I hate it for John, like I said it was a complete surprise what happened to his, and yes $#!+ happens to the best of

Definitely thanks Ekauf. Your videos were far better than watching this pull live. It seems to me OSTPA which generally puts on well organized events really fell short on this one! I understand a sled broke, however when you have 2 sleds I see no reason why there should be a 5 or more minute break in the action which happened many many times throughout the evening. Als

using different blocks under different metal from what it was intended reinforces the thought that if reasonable cubic inch limits had been put in place years ago, we wouldn't have this problem. It is also why Light Pro Stock is popular now. Don't blame a puller for wanting to run a combo that will live better as long as it is legal, they are only trying to stay competit

Take the NTPA show over ppl anyday! Pulloffs is one reason. Unlimited and SSD in another! Mod class in ppl was built by guys running from Bill Voreis a few years back. Name one class ppl started. They just poach from NTPA. Been to a couple ppl shows and have been to my last! Have one 40 minutes from home next weekend and won't be going. If ppl is so great how do you explain the diff

All depends on the track & sled settings. Generally speaking I'll say 28-35 mph. Any faster than 35 & you're probably not stopping.

I for one am very curious to see what the Walsh Brothers bring out. Isn't the Simon turbine the old Dirt Challenger tractor? And LD is listed as "Hemis", same chassis as the turbine tractor from last year?

NTPA you do not have to pre-commit for points. It's a way to earn extra money for making all of the hooks throughout the season, which is why there are only 10 allowed to pre-commit. PPL you MUST pre-commit to run for points. Without pre-committing you cannot earn points towards a championship, but you still are allowed to pull, just no points are rewarded.

Robby Crutchfields Crutchfields Massey Ferguson "Brutal Force" did hook the the sled a couple times this fall with an IH 504 motor but had a major failure in the lifters causing serious damage to the entire engine including the block. The chassis has been purchased by Andy Dutton from South Carolina & is receiving his Deere motor from the old Gary Wipf tractor lastly known as the "Drifter II".

Any of you keyboard punchers here ever pulled much with NYTPA? If so, what tractor is yours? Only reason I ask is as a sled operator who frequents this clubs events, it is quite impressive how much the tracks are the great equalizer in those "combo classes". Where in certain parts of the country a light pro vs a super farm would be the light pros class to run away with hands down, that's not

Pretty wise fella reminded me a few days ago that everyone has a right to be upset about a problem. But at the same time if the person who is complaining about the problem cannot come up with a solution to the problem, then the complainer is just another part of the problem....

Since Decision Maker Inc. purchased the Split Decision mini sled from Bauer Built last winter, we have put it through its paces with a wide variety of classes that NASOA has approved for level 5 sleds.
The first event we ever done with it was the 2018 Keystone Nationals, we ran Interstate big block & small block minis both at 1,850 lbs as well as the 4,500 lb small block 4x4 trucks. In the sm

Here's my .02 worth.... drop one qualifier of 10 pros in favor of a 7500 regional level mod class. Twin hemis, triple chevys, twin allisons, I guess turbines are out of the question at NFMS, I'm sure there are a couple exotic others that could be added to give some more variety....

Just a question for the current groups running with PPL. Will PPL adopt classes not currently in there rulebook or are they just interested in the 6-8 classes that they now sanction
Would a organization with many forms of classes be a fit with PPL.
Just curious.

Michael, why not allow three wedge head motors with 8-71's in there with your two hemi's with 14-71's? That has proven to be a pretty even match at the state/regional level.
