Nice paint job.
Did you have a cream alky for a little while in the recent past? Possibly right before the black one? I was thinking I remembered one but I didn't see it in your photo's of past Temptations.

It should limit at 4/3 = 1.333 times the face value of the chip. ie 4000 chip will limit at 5333. If you want to limit at 6000 you need a 4500 chip.
It's really limiting the pulses / min & the 8 has 4 pulses / rev versus 3 pulses / rev for the 6.
4000 x 4 = 16000 pulses / min.
16000 / 3 = 5333 RPM

At the top levels (PS, SS, SF) you may be right. But if you include all the hot stocks & "field" tractors the 66 series IH has to win with ease.

If you're getting under your turbo it may keep you on top. Probably more beneficial on headers than a cast manifold though.
If your air inlet is under the hood it could keep the under hood temps a little lower which will help some too.

So you think that if MN opened up their turbo limit, all those guys would bolt on 5" turbos & be able to run with the supers? I highly doubt it & I think Terry would agree. Going back to your SF and Mod Turbo examples, why don't those pullers just step up to PS? Same reason - cost & maintenance. If the big whigs decided that the PS numbers were getting light & the solution was to elimina

If you're going with the 329 a 4030 or 2840/2940 would be lighter than the 4010. It should bolt right up to a 2630/2640 rear too or using the plate from a 2510 to that rear or even the 3010/3020. Getting gears & such for any of these will require a little more searching than the 4010 though.

Depends upon how hard you want to work at it. I've seen them at 5500 in the old days before cages, so I'd say it can be done.

It looks like that one came apart at the main bearings. Most of the US diesels that I've seen pics of after they've split seem to come apart near the cam. I figured there was a parting line there that made it the weak point...

Re: oil - 15 years ago
Verify that the corners of your bearings are not hitting the radius on the crank journal. Typically performance crank grinders leave a larger corner radius than OEM cranks have. 'Stock' bearings may not have enough chamfer to clear the larger radius.

Re: oil - 15 years ago
One suggestion I was given was to bring the oil into the gallery at more than 1 location. I know the older blocks have 1/8" NPT plugs where the cross drilled holes leading from the gallery to the mains are. I plan to drill the plug out bigger & tap for an additional oil entry around #2 or 3

The alky fuel systems aren't that complicated, especially for a small single charger like you are talking about. Yes, belt (or cam if you want to build it) driven fuel pump. Yes, boost reference valve - it goes in the return line from the barrel valve (linked to butterfly & throttle) back to the tank. You have 2 or 3 nozzles per port, 1 is direct from the barrel valve & essentially fuels

the parts are off the shelf & most are availible from both Hilborn & Enderle. The setup is the key & not off the shelf by any means & that is where Brent, Bryan Conners, and several others earn their money.

I'm not 100%, but you may have to use a 2510 adapter. If the 4030 adapter would work, then a 466 should bolt into a 4030. A 4030 that I looked at had the top bolts in 'backwards' but that could be solved with a nut if the pattern is the same.

You can't easily put a 2 speed in a 10 or 20 housing. 10 & 20 had dry clutches & as far as I know all 2 spds had wet clutches. The housings are significantly different (at least 4010 vs 4430) to accomodate the 2 speed. To do it you are going to have to be a pretty good fabricator able to weld into the cast housing.
I think you could possibly put a 4030 clutch housing in front of a 3020

With 3 stages 180-200 is doable - that's only a pressure ratio of 2.4-2.5 per stage (Top charger puts out about 20 psi, middle 75, & bottom 205 if the pressure ratio is 2.45 all the way thru).
As for will it handle it? That depends on what's inside. At 370 cid I'm guessing AC or Ollie. I hope it has 7 mains & a girdle. I'm not familiar with the factory rods in either, b

BTW, Unless you have access to a lathe & consider your labor free, a set of gears from Atlas Tractor may be less expensive. A while back I think he had a set of 7-1/2 on the shelf too.

Yes, they are alky, but at similar airflow the HP should be similar. Given the size of the bottom chargers I would think it could turn a bigger one on top, but the engine may not be able to hold that much. He may have been limiting the boost with the top charger to keep the bottom end together. You might ask if he ever tried a 93 on the top as that should be 3.9
My guess is that you're

If you're familiar with the Supertiquer (Golden Harvester), Levee Leaper, or Hulls 4 banger Minni, I'd expect you to be in their neighborhood. They are probably running slightly bigger chargers on top, so they will make a little more HP.

You can use the factory 4020 parts, or I believe the 4320 gears may be a little wider. You cut the center of the 32T gear thats on the front of the countershaft to fit the countershaft where the 6/8 gear goes. If you want to keep 8th you also need to cut the 2/5 gear off the countershaft & match the PTO gear to that. Then you cut the factory teeth off the pinion shaft gear that you want to repl

I know one that milled it off & used a 'cough' IH 312 intake.
There were also some heads built for that family that had ports to a more traditional manifold. At least some were intercooled engines. I'm not sure how hard they are to find.

I designed a set for a 3000 RPM tractor that we didn't put needles in. He only ran that set for about half a year before putting the tractor back to stock, but had no problems during that time.
Prewitt is right - clearance can become a problem, both on the spring & pushrod side.

If you're 10th you're an important part of the show. Not many hooks for a 1 tractor class.
So if you finish 2nd or lower, do you give your points & prize checks back? Wouldn't want any evidence of being a loser, would you?
If they only pay 5 or 6 places, I agree it's not a big deal, but if they pay back 10 & I didn't get a chance to move up I'd be upset.

Hmm. I have needles in mine & have been running them for probably at least 5 years without any problems.
I've also ditched the hollow shaft that kept breaking. A little spray oiling keeps the needles happy so far although I don't have many runs on the solid shaft setup.

I believe Mike Savey was the owner of Canadian Mist that I recall. Could have bought it from a Moberly??? From what I heard he tried 329, 359, & 414. Liked the 329 & 359 the best - said 414 didn't want to rev.
Allen Lichte (sp?) from MO has the 4030 that I heard Roberts Machine had a hand in building. It too started as a single charger & then went to two. I believe it was a 359. Pul

No, you're probaly not going to find a bunch of used parts from someone who's changing classes & the major builders will not have parts on the shelf, but someone like Murphys mentioned on another thread or Brad Gray will probably work with you on rockers. The clutch guys should be able to do a flywheel. It kind of depends upon how much of a do it yourself guy you are.
