This was attempted last winter with the National LLSS Rules where pullers in the class from the various clubs across the country had the chance to contribute. Just as with anything else in the sport of truck and tractor pulling, there were people complaining about various aspects of the class. Whether it was their clubs were not represented or whether or not the weight should be 6,000lb, 6,200lb,

Complaining occurs on all levels of pulling regardless of class. I have heard the LLSS complaining, HSS complaining, even complaining in STOCK tractor classes as well as garden tractors. What made this sport so great was that instead of changing the rules just to appease the complainers the pullers would find a way to beat the guys who beat them whether it be putting a second V8 on their mod or a

Thank you for correcting me. I completely forgot about Trophy Buck. I thought I saw in the Puller that Bricker had also purchased Hi-Tech Redneck and that he was going to campaign that one and keep Demon in the shop (if only I had the money and he was willing to sell it). What would spur growth in the regional and state level HSS divisions? Would an OEM rear mandate or different cubic inch, fuel,

Wolverine in Region II is hurting just as bad when it comes to HSS. Besides things such as the 2008 recession the costs of running a competitive tractor have grown tremendously since the early 2000s. In Michigan we saw longtime pullers such as Schaendorf and Measle sell. Jerry Van Dorpe's passing saw Demon go to New York. The only three in the class I can think of in Michigan are Broughton (

I was curious and asked a professor of mine who is a lawyer in the music industry and this is what I found out. "Walk-up music" would qualify as copyright infringement as it does constitute a public performance. It would be the promoter's responsibility to acquire a blanket public performance license from ASCAP and BMI (both in order to play it safe). Certain venues may already have this in

They usually mean "full cut" when they say "double" meaning that they have cut both the tops and the fronts of the lugs. In antique pulling the two main cuts are top cut and full cut. They may confuse top cut with single cut and full cut with double. That is what I figure they mean.

If you can get a small block up to 850hp on gas and can get it to hook up to the sled more power to you
The only way to find out how well you stand is to go out there and do it.

Gas trucks normally weigh much lighter than the diesel trucks. I couldn't tell you off hand how much a 1 ton gas would weigh but most gas trucks I've seen in pulling weigh around 6,200-6,500lb and the diesels around 8,500lb. Diesel performance parts have really shifted the focus to diesels in the sport of pulling with not as much new technology to my knowledge coming out for the gas eng

Maybe it's because our tractor only weighs 6,000lb but my family has never been pulled over by DOT in Michigan. As long as we have a plate on the trailer, working lights, and a four point tie down they are fine. I have heard of pullers having the DOT driving behind them counting the chains to see if they have the four point tie down but that is it.

It also depends on the type of tracks you would be pulling on. If you are pulling predominantly sandy tracks you can get away with 466, but if you are pulling on heavy clay tracks like what we have in Michigan you will want the extra cubes. You won't need the cubes at the starting line but come the end of the run you will appreciate them.

Do you mean a LP exhaust manifold or a LP head? I have not heard of anyone using an LP exhaust manifold in order to gain power, nor if it is legal in organizations with similar antique rules to the NATPA. I know of pullers using the LP head in order to gain more power. What class would it be for? Would it be a basic stock class, a top cut class, full cut, etc? For higher power classes you will al

Probably the most iconic phrase in the sport of truck and tractor pulling came from the late, great announcer Keith Bradley, "FULLLLLLLLL PULLLLLLL!" The sound of this at the National Tractor Pulling Championships was our sports equivalent of a cannon being fired at a college football game after a touchdown or the goal horn at a hockey game. Hearing this phrase the crowd would go wild with excite

I couldn't tell you the bore and stroke of my C301, but it use to run at 5,000 rpm with the combine carb for years and would produce around 200hp running in a 6,500 open rpm open speed class. The only difference between the carbs in the 221, 263, 291, 301 (806) and 301 combine is the venturi. There is a major size difference between the 806 venturi and the combine venturi. We switched to a s

The best advice I can give you is to have fun. Don't worry about winning per say, if it happens it happens. In this sport you are not getting paid much if anything if you win so just enjoy the ride.

The main problem with turbine tractors is that it is all or nothing from the starting line. You cannot play with the throttle like you can when running piston engines. Once they hit 80 percent you lift off the clutch and hold on for dear life while trying to keep it straight on the track.

The MM G-VI would be sweet to see, but can not tell you too much about the 425 diesel. The G-VI is quite popular in antique pulling as they can have an 800 cu. in. irrigation engine transplanted in. I have seen a G-VI run well turbocharged on diesel, but it was a gas block with lp parts running on diesel and after a while the 60 pounds of boost got to the block.

The distances are ridiculous I agree. I have not heard anything for having tractors or trucks pulling that far and am wondering who will speak up and address this with promoters, sled operators, sanctioning bodies etc. As for the pan drop, was the sled able to adjust the speed of the pan drop? I know their are certain sleds (such as the Luedtke built sleds with the airbag operated pan drop) that

I am not of much help when it comes to engine modifications, but I can help you as far as some general tips. I have seen many local gas truck classes where breakage is almost certain to happen to at least one puller, drive shaft being the common thing to go. With a half ton you are at more of a disadvantage. Three quarter or one tons are a much better choice for pulling, but a half ton can get th

NTPA does have a 6,300lb Modified class intended for State level onely that consists of similar rules; one Hemi with 14.71 blower, one turbine, one industrial engine, one Allison, four naturally aspirated small blocks, etc. It is currently in the books but none of the member states run this class. My guess is due to the paradox of they won't adopt the class until they have the iron and pulle

That is not uncommon in truck and tractor pulling. These are not permanent CAT certified scales. They are loaded on top of the sled and taken from pull to pull. It is just something every puller has to live with.

From what I see in the 2016 Rule Book the Cat 3208 is allowed in Super Farm, Limited Pro Stock, or Pro Stock. The other classes have either smaller cubic inch limits or in the case of the Super Stock class outright states no V8's.

Well didn't the sport have that when Big Tobacco sponsored the sport with the Copenhagen Skoal and TNT Redman series? USHRA had Budweiser beer cans for distance markers and a six pack on the weight box. There was an AC D21 super stock with Pepsi as the sponsor and Arfons had Busch on the shields of his turbines. What happened to that?
