A real good announcer is a huge asset to a pull. I haven't gone to Bowling Green since the 90's but it was a good time. Good announcers and lots of action. I think a two track pull solves a lot of issues. There is less down time and a mix of vehicles with more constant action. Our local fair pull hasn't had a good announcer for a while and it really grinds me when they can't e

I've been a pulling fan since 1975 and a small time puller from Northeastern Pa. for most of that time. As a fan/puller I would like to think we could draw from some other sports but it's tough to do that. I know of several attempts to have non fair professional pulls here but the crowds didn't come and money was lost. One show was the Sunday after the Bloomsburg Fair pull. A lot o

Most demo derby winners get way more prize money than the pullers get at the fairs. I do think the diesel truck classes have picked up the crowds in some areas. As more people can relate to a pickup vs. a tractor. I know different promoters have tried putting on pulls as a stand alone event without a fair crowd and have failed in our area. I am really disappointed the major companies in the farm

With all the talk of new classes here is a class that might be a stepping stone for the future of tractor pulling. Forget all the big cubes to start with.
466, 3" turbo with what ever type of electronic fuel injection you want. Allow any computer system there is. The diesel truck classes already use this right ? Just a brain fart but might be neat to do.

Blues brother have you seen the classifieds on here ? 5000 parts. When I pulled our 4320 I pulled against a very strong Ford utility. Not sure if it was a 5000 but I'm pretty sure it was out of NY. There was a narrow front end one that was real strong too. Of course all the ones Forresters had a hand in were all super strong tractors in the "stock" classes.

What brand, weight class, rules for your area, turbo/no turbo, cubes, pump type allowed and on and on. Just remember no such thing as stock- "farm stock" as you've already learned if pulling antiques. $$$$$$$'s are the limit.

Oliver you are probably right but why make things so complex that the troopers don't even know what to do. My other question is we as farmers never get an update book on the law changes. There are even discrepancies on how to tie a tire down or if the tire needs to be tied down in a pickup bed. I don't know where you are from but here in Pa. you don't need a cdl for farm plates or

Thanks Brian for the info. Wow just one more thing to muddy our lives. Pa. DOT and PUC inspections are a nightmare in our local county as it is. I got stopped 2 months in a row with our farm permitted hay truck. They said I needed DOT numbers and when I questioned it they said get going. I think it's time to pack up and move to Canada with this plus all the other nonsense our "free" nation i

I was reading my Lancaster Farming paper this morning and found a drawing of the Nut Case on the Kids Corner page. A boy from Delaware drew a picture of the Nut Case on a semi. Now that is a true fan. I will send the page to you Kris "In Case" you don't get the paper.

Numbers are way down at our local fair but for good reasons. I will admit that numbers started to decline when we tried very hard to enforce the rules about 5 years ago. I was part of the group who said if we have rules we should enforce them. It didn't go very well to say the least. Our own tractor didn't win many pulls over the years but was a top 5 tractor in the 9000 and was labeled

I totally agree with new guy and have also been bashed for the same complaint. I think the seller who puts "serious only" isn't really wanting to sell. How do I know if I'm serious or not if I don't have the details or even the price. If you don't want calls don't advertise. Raffle it off. I'll buy a ticket.

Yep. I remember going to pulls when corn was $7. and guys were all sucked in. Ordering new tractors, combines and renting more land. I always said what goes up always comes down. Some where older farmers too that should know better as they have seen the ups and downs. I wish them luck unless they end up screwing good people out of their money as bankruptcy always does. Once you put a trailer 10,000 or over behind a pickup you need a combination license and that leads to a cdl drivers license and med card. If you run farm plates you just need the med. card. But as previously stated the police usually don't know what is what. I've yet to be pulled over with my trailer but have gotten Dot and fuel checked with our farm plates and permitted trucks. Alway

Passing info on to you: Use a 4020 with diff. lock then remove the diff. lock and have the spider gears and axle gears needled. Then you should be fine. Lemke or Engler do these. Here a Pro Farm is 540 with A-pump and last I knew a 2.8 charger. Good luck.

Pulling while owing money on a debt happens all the time and at every level. We saw it before as mentioned on this site. Some actually borrow money from a bank for a farm tractor when it actually is a puller they are buying. Some have had family tragedies and others have had benefits for those people. Then the next year they are out on the track with a new puller. Are any of these situations righ

I ran enhanced with a 4320 for years. The pump is the limiting factor compared to an IH 100 or of course an A-pump. In the 9000 I was very competitive. The heavy class mid pack or less. I couldn't run water and started pushing the limits and couldn't keep a turbo on it. It would burn up the exhaust wheel. I didn't do anything to the engine. If I were to do it over I would go with a

I am not being a smart A with my question as I am 1000 miles from you guys. How do run a Hot farm without water injection ? I ran a 4320 and once we got a good rotary pump and a 2.4 charger I kept burning up the exhaust fins on the turbo. We had a no water rule also but as always some were running it and other stuff. Also good luck with your new class. I've been there and done it for over 2

Both Deere and Case IH have self operating tractors that have debuted. Auto steer has been in use on tractors and combines for sometime. I combined corn for a farmer that used GPS etc. to plant it. Sell me your 4320 and go build/buy another one. I've been looking for a 4320 w/A-pump and 466. We can't run P-pumps here in Northeastern Pa.. Wimmer (spelling?) builds real good A-pumps which some Interstate pullers run in all classes.

Hang in there. Like others have said get some pulling partners. I'm certain you won't have any trouble finding them. I didn't pull last year but hauled my friends tractor to pulls. That kept me in the sport and I got to spend time with those I pulled with and met over the years. It was a lot less stress and money than pulling. A double bonus !
