My kids are in sports and once the subject of tractor pulling came up during a game. I told them that I pull tractors and one of the guys said, "I went to a local tractor pull once and it was boaring". I probably had a bewildered look on my face but had to explain the differances. There is a huge differance between the local farm pull and an upper level event as far as excitement. Each type of pu

The reason for the 3.4" turbo was to try to pull the diesel back a little bit and to simplify the tech procedure. Seams like most of the issues with the map ring turbos comes from the checking of the map ring. There is no good way to check it, and most of the horsepower gains in the last few years have come from improved map ring angle and design. Dyno tests find that the 3.4" actually makes abou

The EPA will make it impossible to get to the pull, before they regulate the sport itself. There are way more emissions emited into the atmosphear from our trucks and haulers than from the pulling tractors and trucks themselves. Taxing fuel and making emissions extreamly stringent on haulers and semi trucks is just the first couple of steps. Possibly in the distant future mandating electric semi

So here is what I think is going on. Why would anyone pay $50 or $75 to buy a ticket when they can go to the county fair or a local brush pull and see the same tractors for $10 or $12. It's really our own fault that the payouts are low. We go to our local pulls and pull for basiclly nothing. You can't blame the promoters for low payouts because they seem to get tractors anyway. The only

So if I want to go down south and pull my tractor, I need to ask the organization putting on the pull what the rules and the weight are. Then I make the changes, make the weight, or stay home. For instance. if I go pull badger state, I already know I need 24.5 tires and a smooth turbo, and add 250 lbs. No big deal. If I want to pull in Kentucky or with the southern fellows, then I need to put on

So...At the WTPA members meeting in December, it was decided that the WTPA LLSS class was (NOT) going to allow the 3.4 smooth bore turbocharger on there diesel tractors. They are only allowed a 3" slotted cover turbo. Regional LLSS is the 3.4 smooth bore, but only at regional events. All state hooks in WTPA are 3" slotted cover. The class members (Diesel and Alcohol) felt that the 3.4 would just

Detroit engine used in mid 90's 85?? or 89?? Agco Allis tractors. Came in 466 and 530. Combo's from 408 to 572. Navistar made them for Perkins, Detroit and Navistar.
I don't know if it maters but NTPA actually lists it in the rule book as a replacement for the 426 Allis.

Man.... Sorry I stirred up a hornets nest. Tractor is 410 cooler and slotted (PPL Super Farm Legal) cover. 30.5 tires. And I need to do more homework, had a terrible run in Ridgeland and ended up 3rd in WTPA points. Very Happy with where we ended up and looking forward to next year. The Guys that placed 1st and second are very dedicated pullers and right on the ball all the time, Hats off to Mill

Forgive My obvious lack of intellect but why wouldn't you keep it simple and run the same turbo on all the diesel tractors. After all the evening factors are already done with the cubic inches and other variables. Really hope our group sticks with what we already have.

The cost isn't that much different, there are already companies that make really good ECM's already, I don't know if its good for the sport or not. The old order pullers will struggle with it. But the younger guys will not understand why the tractors don't run EFI. I think with time EFI will take over. I personally would love to try a llss with EFI and COP (coil over plug), no

I sell automotive and small tires, I have priced them though our Firestone distributor, and the guys that sell pulling tires are the same price or a little bit less. Plus you get better advice on how to mount and cut them.
Even I as a dealer would buy them from a pulling tire guy. I like Hawthorns but you choose.

It's not the HP that is the issue. According to the Central Guidelines all superfarm tractors fit our rules perfectly, and are always welcome at our pulls @ 8000lbs. I wish they could pull with us more often. Superfarm is an excellent class and most pullers in superfarm have went the extra mile and spent the extra money and time to make them very competitive and usually place very well at o

As a guy that works on vehicles for a living I would buy a gas pickup. If you are planning on buying brand new. Fuel cost per mile is the same (even towing) and the maintenance costs are much less. Older diesels are ok in all of them.

Not much will interchange. Cylinder head and maybe oil pan. Bolt pattern on back of block and crank is different to. All internal parts are different. Stick to the older IH engine. Parts are cheaper and easier to come by.
