What all does it take to put an RD engine in a 560? Do I need a custom front and rear adapter plate? What about the fly wheel? How about coolant lines? Anything else that would soak up unexpected cash? I got a line on an engine, but to get the boss (wife) convinced I’m gonna need a pretty accurate budget! Lol

No you cannot cross an Ag and truck engine. The bore and stroke are both different, and the height of the truck block is shorter. I might be able to be done with SUBSTANTIAL machine work, but not a drop in.

They are a well liked engine, but the American 312 shares parts with the 360, and is the same engine family as the 466, so it is much easier to hot rod.

I don't know if you can combine them easily, but it would get you in the upper 300's, possibly 380 ish? What others have done is use 806 pistons in a D-360 for 407 cubes. It is not cheap or "drop in."
I'm gonna send you a PM.

The 360 is shorter than the 466. Tractordata lists the wheelbase as 202.7 on a 766, 205 on the rest of the series. I would guess a set of frame rails, as well as sheet metal, would get you going.

I think it's gonna be tough to find a truck body that NOBODY has EVER used as a puller. Are there any Willys pickups pulling? Jeep is coming with a new pickup shortly. Some compact pickups like a Courier or Rabbit would make a decent TWD that not everyone has.

8 years ago I pulled into a fair and registered my pulling truck. I told them 1973 International. I got a dumb look. I said, yes, you heard me right. I heard the announcer question the existence of an International pickup. Everywhere I went I had people talking to me about it. It was never a high end puller, but it got more attention than your average dodge, chevy or ford!

External visual differences are the ID stamp and accessories. Like the above poster said, the crank is the only inside difference, swap that and put in a 466 OH kit and you have the factory engine with more insides!

Henry Ford's plan worked on one simple principle- build a bunch of them all the same. That won't work in pulling. Maybe if we went NASCAR route and everyone used the same machine painted different and it was all a driver's game, but even then you wouldn't get enough volume to get a mass production price.

Just recently I saw a running take out for $1500. Don't remember where though.

I see several people saying to get pulling in a bigger city type of venue. A couple years ago there was a high level pull held in Sturgis during the Motorcycle rally. How did that do? With a half million gearheads and rednecks in the area, I would think if that didn't work, no city crowd is gonna have a chance!

I've heard of replacing the pump on a German with that of a 5.9 Cummins, but I don't know specifics. I've also seen a Roosa on one, but the guy who did it was a shade tree mechanical genius.

If your tractor needs to "spool up" before pulling, it isn't farm stock and should absolutely have safety equipment! And there were people standing way to close to the track at that pull.

Firestone SAT are Super All Traction bias tires. Many people are running RAT- Radial All traction. They look very similar. They function differently of course.

That price is a steal for anything other than flame-cut weights! And it's about right even for them. Buy them, and if they don't match close enough either hang them on a different bracket or sell/trade them.

Weight balance, tires, tire pressure, the specific line on the track. Having way more hp than the rest will put you on top most of the time, but there is no such thing as an unbeatable tractor. And yes, luck is definitely a factor!

I ran 90 ish hp and was beating guys with 120 at least occasionally by having it set up right and running bald power saver radials. I believe they are better than the FS, at least at the lower speeds.

SO if there is a rule regarding shielding the plugs, did the plug go around the shield? Or through it? Clearly there was at least two failures (the engine and shield) to cause this!

What thickness should I make a PTO delete plate for an IH? Would sheetmetal work? Or maybe 1/8"? Does it need to do anything other than hold the Hy-tran in?

Does anyone know for sure if the D-312 and D-360 ag engines have the exact same heads? I'm rebuilding a 360 but have a 312 head already gone through (stock), but don't want to lose power in the process. And while I'm asking, would some port/polish work gain much in a non-turbo farm tractor that may see the track once or twice a year?

Turbo setup from a 12 or 14, roosemaster 450 with lines and injectors, and a bunch of small tricks can get you good power. For less money you can get more power from a 466.

I've seen many 18.4 tires on 18, even 20 inch rims. Some probably go wider yet. I have even seen a 15.5 on an 18" rim!

At least the article said that most puller are firmly against rolling coal. I have no issue with anyone spewing smoke, but point that exhaust UP!

externally they are the same diameter axle as 7,8,9, and most 10's, but I'm not sure internally. Also the length will vary, even among the same model. I would guess your best bet is a 7 or 806.

They are in the same family as the 466 engines, and are just as easy to get parts for and fix. The 312 and 360 are identical except stroke. The DT 360 is NOT. Add a turbo and you can get all the power you want.

With a 4.25 bore and (I assume) DT 360 stroke, what cubes does it make?

The only oversized pistons I've heard of in the smaller block is by using the D-360 ag block with 361 pistons to get 407 cubes. I've got one for sale that put water in the oil for cheaper than you can buy the kit if you're interested. In SW WI

It's been a few years, but I seem to recall on my 460 (same hubs) I gained 3 or 4, 75 pound weights by switching from cast to pressed 15.5.

You are looking for a solid axle swap, I assume? You could use a 70's-80's chevy axle, but need the transfer case as well because the driveshaft and differential are on the wrong side. Otherwise you need a Ford or Dodge axle to use your existing T-case. Unless you happen to find a chevy 4x4 van which has the correct axle.

Early 686 also came with the 312, as well as the Hydro 70 & 86. Probably easier to find an aftermarket plate.
