400 series would make quite a tractor out of it, but like you said you will need parts from a 34 or 3688. A dt360 should give you plenty of power, be very efficient and fit right in, given the correct adapter plate and accessories. You won't miss that kraut engine!

I don't think it matters. I know that early 806's used the high speed rear as well, but it's easier to find a 706.

Not if your goal is to get 360 cubes. The DT360 truck engine has a different bore and stroke compared to an ag D360. And the blocks are a different height as well.

Just wondering for those who pulled and placed at the pull in National IS if they have seen any payouts? I got a first and second with my pickup, and got my gas cards that day, but was figuring there should be some prize money too. If others got payed already I will just assume that they chose not to pay out for my classes. I had fun either way

I have always gone farther with extra weight in my truck, but they never seem to set the sled the same twice in a row.... I agree that track conditions and gear selection play a big role, but I would pull heavier every time it is an option.

It sucks you guys didn't get the second day of pulling in, but you can't do much about the weather! So how did the 5500 anything goes class go? Did you have good variety and numbers? What were the top finishers?

And this, folks, is why lawyers get paid what they do to write up legal contracts. Someone, somewhere, found a loophole, so they needed to use more words than any normal person should have to use, just to close a loophole and make the intent of the statement be the ONLY way to interpret it. It should be noted, however, that most rules include as the first or last line: Judges decisions are fin

I have looked into doing this in the past. It is borderline cheating- you are basically adding a super charger. That being said, I learned a great deal about it. Here are a couple of the most informative replies I got at that time.
It depends a lot on your valve stuff. Many (especially older) 4 stroke engines do not achieve good flow at speed, having a flow deficit primarily due to intake r

Nitrous is a turbo in a bottle- so I would expect a NA tractor would benefit substantially from it. You are unlikely to get the 200hp gains being claimed by some previous posters, but I would venture a guess that with proper fuel tuning you could gain 50% or more. The biggest problem with running nitrous is that high hp setups are typically wet systems- adding nitrous PLUS more fuel. Adding ni

If you have the short 1000 shaft, they are tough to find a buyer for the PTO. Newer implements don't like to hook up to them. If you got the longer shaft, then you can sell them. Compare it against a 56 series or newer and the difference will be obvious.

Has anyone used the 8.1 chevy in a performance application? I see there are carb intakes available for them now. They should make a good platform, and perhaps competetive price-wise to the 454. This would be for a street truck pulling trailer and occasionally a sled.

It's really hard to have rules that can be enforced. The only way I've seen it done is to have a rule of "no smoke, no stacks, no exceptions"

There were a few D-301 engines used in pickups, but they were mostly used in combines and construction equipment. They are the same block as a D-282, and mostly the same as the C-221, 263, 301, etc. They are completely interchangable and acceptable even in most antiques clubs.

656 never had the 312, only 666 and early 686. It is easier to find someone who makes them new.

I've seen guys with aggressive mud tires do well and also do poorly. I've seen a/t tires and they typically do real well. I've even seen highway tires win classes, but you need the right track- usually hard clay. I use an old style a/t tire, and would suggest something a/t. Not sure how important tire brand is; there are so many other factors with pickups. (most notably HP)

I personally prefer Natural Aspirated tractors to run slower than the turbo tractors, for obvious reasons. Either 5 or 6 mph seems to work. The turbo tractors can run 8 pretty easy with some tweaking of the pumps, so anywhere from 8-10 seems to suit them. But to keep it a truly stock pull, they should run about the speed they would do heavy tillage- 5-6 mph. Good luck getting them to show up

For starters, what have you done so far? What does it weigh? What would you like it to weigh? You can do anything from yanking the PTO, 3pt, fenders and such, all the way to removing the cast nose and steering column, and a whole lot more.

You would have to get a little creative with steering lines. My cousin got a bolster without all of the lines to put on his 1566, and it was difficult to make everything work. You cannot get the correct lines new.

Got a question for those of you who know alot about bending tubing. I bought my wife a small motorcycle for Christmas, and want to build crash bars for it. The specs I see on factory units shows that they are .095 cold rolled steel, 1-1/4" OD. I don't have a pipe bender. Could I heat it with a torch and bend it? Or should I pay a shop to make the bends? Or could I make angled cuts and w

They used the German 310 and 358 in combines, but I don't know of any 312 or 360 powered combines or cotton pickers. I think there were a few construction applications with the factory turbo manifold, but good luck finding one.
