If you start with antiques and keep it stock pulling is relatively inexpensive. To be competitive in most of the modified classes takes CUBIC DOLLARS!!

Being 74 and about 2/3 the way done with this project I have come to the realization that by the time I get it built I may be too old to safely drive it. Ideally it would go in one piece to someone that wants to get into a good project. It is NOT the tractor pictured in my avatar

I have been building a IH 466 Hot farm tractor. I have had some life changes and am contemplating letting the project go. It is incomplete but I have most of the parts. Am I better off to sell individual parts or sell it as a non running unit. I think that I know the correct path, just want to get other points of view.

Where in the crossover pipe is the optimum placement for water injection? I know that there is radial air flow close to the turbocharger, does that radial flow continue continue into the intake manifold?

The 4430 out of my shop ran tan the stock quad range (with 8630 clutch and higher pressure) at 650 HP or so. Did not have any issues with it. When we went to the 466 cubed 8.1 block we updated the transmission to a dry clutch in a 4020 housing and a 3 speed.

Take the time (and money) to get a certified cage built. If not for yourself then for the track workers that will have to cut a body out of a tangles mess of metal.

I just noticed that his face shield was up. I have done this too, just too much going on. Maybe the start flaggers should make sure the drivers have that shield in place?

I have been working on a IH diesel puller project for 4 years. Due to some changes in my life I am considering quitting the project. I have lots of good parts on the shelf waiting to be assembled in the tractor. Am I better off selling parts or as a incomplete project?

2023 MIGHT be the time frame I need it. All depends on the time I can spend on the rest of the build.

I too built my own engine stand. Found a deep reduction gearbox and some round and square tubing. Mine is specific for the IH 466 side mount and IH 4 speed transmission, although I have hung many different ag engines on it. I dont have any bearings in the swivel just a pipe that slides inside of another and grease fittings.

Many years ago (1980 maybe) I was taking pulling event photographs for a local newspaper in Elkhorn Wisconsin NTPA pull, I was at the big end of the track, maybe 330 foot. A Super Stock 4320 broke his hitch at about 250 foot mark. The tractor launched and all 4 tires were off the ground, By the time he got stopped the tractor was past 330 mark. I had to scramble just to get out of the pat

Tony has an interesting theory, maybe as the engine pulls down it is unable to maintain a full burn to the BDC? The idea that an injector tip blew off is also interesting to me. That would also hydraulic a cylinder.

I did not read anything about the root cause of these engine explosions. I have always assumed it starts as a valve train failure, causing an exhaust valve to stop functioning. With that the cylinder fills partway with fuel and water and hydraulics the block apart. I am not an engineer but that makes more sense than just a weak block.

Seems to me that the more photos of the sport we love the better off we all will be. With the proliferation of cell phone cameras today its impossible to keep images private. Face it as pullers we are all out there as performers in front of an audience just to have some really expensive fun. If a photographer wants to TRY to make a few dollars for his investment in equipment just let him or h

CCs of fuel, turbo, weight, tires? I torqued the stock head bolts to 180 and it lasted about 7 years. Finally had a fire ring go. I used Hyper fire rings and machined the sleeves and the issue went away.
