just re-read original post---if greenman is running a sb deere, changing to a 7 1/2 might be the cheapest option, but their are many sbjd cases out there with three speed units that are close ratio units near 8th gear, that could meet his needs long term---if his budget and long term pulling plans point to that end. Anything causing you to lose "footprint", with the power you already have, would

I've tried that (20.8 x 34s, 20 inch rims) with a 619 deere, and should have stayed with my original "concrete" hard 20.8 cooper's that came on the tractor. Could handle 7th gear at any wt I tried, didn't have the fuel/air mods to pull 8th at 11000. Another option could be bolting on a set of scraper planetaries---moving seventh gear up to near a true 7.75 gear, 3 or so mph slower

Another reason for the big numbers of llss in the Kentucky area, there are nights, when the associations/promotors work together, for pullers to get in two hooks a night, by pulling llss the first class at one pull and a later hooking class at a pull nearby, and likewise for the 8500 pro-farm class. The late John Predovich would love to have seen this class, for his 4 cylinder twin charger Ford!

We need to be sure we're not comparing sled speed to wheel speed of the tractor. A tractor pulling a sanction sled 30 mph is turning considerable more mph at the rear wheels. Blue Blazes was clocked in TN in the low 40's, sled speed, tire speed could have been anywhere from 90 to a 100plus. Another issue, the 3000 rpm tractors might have enough of a traction advantage, over a higher

The fastest 8500 pro-farm I'm heard from a sled operator is 29.6 mph, and that was not at 3000 rpm. Maybe 6 to 8 years ago, Linders had a radar gun at Bowling Green and the 7 super boys were averaging 35 to 37 mph, pro-stocks, if memory correct was near 30mph. A 40 mph gear at 3000 rpm is probably a gear the Boyds wish the Green Streaks could pull!!!

Originally many pullers went to that planetary to get more speed below 8th, or to get away from the stock 5th gear(a weak point in stock form). If you can run 8th at 10k, and not lose ANY rpm, you might be able to pull it---but wouldn't bet the farm on it. On the Otwell sled (as an example of a sanctioned sled), 1500hp might not pull the gear! With pullers now building gear sets with as

I don't think anyone is going to decube a 531 to 466, so the issue of what most hot farm rules would not allow the 5020; but pro farm, or as refered to in hand bills as open farm, modified farm etc., usually list a 680 limit or none; in the 11000 gordyville pro-farm class Clint lists no cubic inch limit in his listing of rpm restrictions, based on cubic inches, just "above 680" . A puller in Shelbyville,KY bought both. The 4010 was damaged in a hauling accident, and to my knowledge, not put back together. The 5010 was ran as "Rated GP", both have been in The Puller, the 4010 with 8 front wts in the 5500 super class (25 lb alum wts, painted green)quite a sight!!
The 5010 was listed in the classified section, when it was "Rated PG". Both were exceptionally lean and clean,

About 20 years ago at the NFMS, the Deutz Underdog, with triple stages, had 5 nozzles above top charger, with five windshield washer fuel lines running to them. On the dash, about the gauges, were 5 toggles, each to activate each line. They fed pressurized water between stages, but added the small amounts at the top, one at a time, to adjust as conditions required during their hook. High pressu

Based upon info on Midnight Mistress and some phone calls, Dexter LaFollette, of the Red Rush pulling team, passed away this evening.
Dexter was a great competitior, and was always a joy to visit with during the season, or at his beautiful hill top farm. My deepest sympathy
to his family and friends. I expect arrangements will be posted sometime Tuesday.

With the economy what it is, it's a buyer's market for some of even the best iron now, when someone decides to make a move in another direction. That notwithstanding, what ole George or anyone else involved in the sport choses to "play with" is their option, not based on public opinion. If everyone I've sold parts too, asked for assistance or refered others to from anything from pa

The two charger setup is a complete engine system, 540 cubes, a pro-stock style (and sized) charger on top and a smaller charger below. James Weaver of the "Virginian" ran the same setup on on the old "Bad Dog" tractor he bought from Thompson, replacing a 3 charger LaGod 436 setup, and was very successful with it in the 9500 super class at that time.

Luke Miller's 1155 won several limited rpm class championships with Ill hot farm pullers, but he worked several years at accomplishing that feat. The boys from Missouri still run tractor (Mad Massey) at the winter indoor pulls, and it makes a good showing there. The 12 plunger pump is 15 year old technology for Schied, they had one on Tim Stone's pro-stock, and one on display at their booth at the NFMS well over 10 years ago. The use of the deutz housing/pump, I would say is due to size/weight/cost savings, that old original 12 plunger p-pump was HUGH and heavy. The dual feed injectors should ensure sufficient access of fuel to the injector, a nati

The 460 rear end is the weakest of the bunch, but there are pullers but over a 1000 hp thru them, with much internal mods, billet parts and lots of bracing. I've had a 460 and a 560 case empty next to each other in my pickup bed, and the size difference is significant, looked like with a little prying and a sledge hammer, you could put the 460 inside the 560---for the size and weight, and e

I think it's hard to place a value on the impact Roberts has had on pulling. I'm amazed at the number of teams fielding three twd vehicles, but Roberts expendentures on his open super stocks and multiple mods could have funded 15 to 20 competitive twds. Gardner Stone set the bar high for hauler expenditures, and his haulers were highly functional, both in tractor accomodations and well
