I have a 85 with a 6.9 that we put a charger off a 7.3 on it, and turned the pump up slightly. mileage is 16 empty, 10 to 12 with a trailer. The power is amazing, its actually hard on the clutch now, and it will shorter the life of it a little with the higher compression. Sure pulls the hills now.

Is it just the big sled, or will the mini sled be there too???

Running down the road with a trailer it runs any where from 10 to 22 lbs depending on the load, and sitting idleing it has a high pitched whine. Sounds like you have problems.

Yes, if you cross state lines and are pulling a trailer, and are over 12000 gvw you needed a DOT # and name on the the truck. Learned that the hard way going to an equipment sale in Iowa.

Steel weighs .283 per square inch, aluminum weighs .095 per square inch, depending on alloy. That would make the steel pistons 3 times heavier than alum, so your rods would need to be stronger, more counter weight on the crank and you couldn't spin it near as fast without it throwing pieces everywhere.

why don't you put the neutral switch on the clutch pedal so it only works when the pedal is pushed down.

The ford belonged to the Breshears Brothers ( Boone, Verlin, and Bush, all three are gone now)they had a shop in Buffalo MO where it was built. Don't remember the exact cubes around 300 had 2 stage turbo system and van botkins helped them with the pump. They struggled with it for a while before getting it to run.

It takes less hp to turn a direct drive than an overdrive, so if you can speed the rearend up it would be better. THat may be hard to do if its an ag rear being limited on your ratios.

some use a 4 speed, some a 3 speed, and others an automatic with a stall converter. depends on what you want and what you have.

you can also put the ring and pinion out of a 400 or 450 farmall in it, dont remember the the number of teeth on each one but it will jump it up a quite a bit.

Put a boost gauge on the exhaust side to see how much back pressure you have compared to boost on intake side.

Nothing wrong with giving the wettlesons credit, but we're talking about a diesel running against the alkys and winning. Not many can build one and make it work.

Adding length will increase the leverage or pull down on the drawbar making it easier to get the front off the ground. Couple of inches will make a big difference. Had the same problem on a mini that had iron block and heads, moved the hitch back 1 and 1/2 inches and was carrying the frontend down the track.

Did you have to change anything major or did it bolt right in??? I know the 400 and 450 are a 19 pinion and 50 ring and I think the 560 as a 11 and 49.

what would be a better way to go, changing the constant mesh gears, or will a 450 IH ring and pinion fit in a 560?

But are those real weights or are they fiberglass???

that will work, but it won' t turn 3000 under a load. Your spring on the governor is not strong enough to overcome the weights of the governor. So take it a part have a scale that weighs in grams and shave weight off the weights. Make sure they weigh the same and put it together and try it. Its trial and error, and will take a little time, but it will work.

the pertronix will work fine with the msd, and maybe 200 isn't cheap, but you have to pay to play.

Go get a MSD 6AL and put a 3000 chip in it and you will have better ignition plus a rev limiter, and their not that expensive.

I have ran a sled, and if you do make the judgement call to pull the kill switch or to hit the brakes it does upset people. They call names and threaten and a little of everything. Whether it was right or wrong to stop the tractor I made a judgement call I thought was best at the time.

Doesn't matter how much horsepower they have, if they can't get it to the ground its wasted.

He's right, some of the early 460 came with 2 1/2 axles and others had 2 3/4. you could also foam the rearend and get rid of a lot of oil. get rid of the big fuel tank and go to a small aluminum one, and make new frame rails out of aluminum.
