First off......Bryan Lively said he deleted the problem post , and apparently you locked the thread down, Dick.....my bad. And yes I agree , it needed locked once the valgar lang. was being thrown around.
Bryan saw nothing wrong with me starting a new discussion regarding the question that I asked in that thread. so here I am.

I asked a question in a discussion that Brian Lively locked the other day, I asked at what point do we need safety equipment ....ie: kill switches, roll cages, wheelie bars etc in regards to stock tractor pulls, (brush pulls) ?
More specifically, at what percentage "over" a tractors, (companies), rated HP, should safety equipment, )as mentioned above), need to be used, (50%, 60% or mayb

In regard to Patches comment....(since "pulling" really isn't the object anymore in superstock , prostock and the like), the idea of timing the run from 100' to 300' , (or what ever the distance is, depending on the facility having enough run off area), where every vehicle runs the full distance and the fastest time down the track wins, sounds interesting !

Many farm tractors coming off the assembly line are pushing 20%.....or more.....over the rated hp.
We had a JD 4450 doing better than 20% over rated on the shaft on the dyno.
Put my 6420 on my dyno and it was pushing out a tick over 30 % over stock pto rating. .
They were bough new and never messed with. In a county fair pull, i don't think 20 or 30 % warrants all the safety stuff .

And then you have the issue of "bad" cops that are anti gun as far as the general public owning and carrying guns.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti cop, but in my area we have a bunch of LE that we can't count on to be on the publics side if they started trying to confiscate guns.
If the dems ever get control and start trying to enforce registration and then confiscation, the lo

Same here, dad and I didn't have much in common as far as interests.
I pretty much got hooked going to pulls on my own.
I left the farm back in '91, but never lost interest in the sport.

I think I agree with you, Jake, in that I feel the sport took off, HP wise, in leaps and bounds, in such a way that it headed in a direction that has hurt the sport, sort of like NASCAR, which I gave up on yrs ago also.
I want to point out that I'm not necessarily against speed, as long as the tractors actually "pulling" some "real weight" from the get go ......if that makes any sense.

I agree with your points ,ih1066 puller, in that the crowd, in my opinion, especially those who "didn't" come from farming, aren't interested in watching tractors right off the farm that aren't turned up....ie: the 25,000lb 250 hp tractors you speak of, because they can't relate to those tractors......they didn't grow up using them.
Also, I don't believe you can g

I'm not really into "drag racing", but that's what "pulling" (?) has become and personally, this turns me off, but it doesn't surprise me.
"Pulling" has become another form of drag racing
I saw it coming back in the '80's.
When HP is left unchecked and the weight of the tractor isn't increased to match it, (as in todays style of pulling), then drag racing becomes

Worst was a IH986. Best was an IH5088 mfd
If those 3x88 and 5x88 series would have had a full powershift, they would have been the tractors to reckon with, for sure.

What are everyone's ideas on having a pull in a wheat field in say west central ohio. if there's enough interest we could have 2 tracks. We would welcome any type any class truck or tractor. Problem is we wouldn't actually be able to have any certain purse. What was thinking if we could come up with some type of betting on distance for a mixed class of everything

I’m as down in the dumps as the rest of ya on this pulling season. I’m waiting to hook mine for the first time yet this summer but we all will have much bigger fish to fry if Trump doesn’t win in November!!!! Just a little food for thought.

I do.....it's great. Entertaining, like what most of society likes these days - "to be entertained". I also like tractor pulls that have speed and excitement - aka "entertaining".
I understand the premise of the dead pull/70's type sled concept. It's just not truly entertaining for most folks these days.
To each their own. Enjoy your plowing contest.

JDpowershift, apparently you never witnessed a dead weight pull where either 15' or 20' was a full pull. A full pull very seldom happened. Because the huge deep tire holes and resulting mound of dirt, after each hook in usually a quite large # of entries, where formidable obstacles to overcome along with a much overloaded steel pan sled.
Do I desire to go back to that

I don't think it's whining as much as it's just some folks , such as myself, wanting to see a tractor actually "pull" a sled that's weighted heavy from the get-go and have to pull it a certain distance down the track., (if that makes any sense).
I'd just like to see a different "style" of pulling , with a different "objective" to it, but I'm a stock tractor pullin

How many acres is the overall area ?

Yes heavy farm stock "pulls".
Back in the 80's there was some really heavy classes........16, 18, up to maybe 24,000lb IIRC, that I went to.
Man those tractors were being pushed to their limits. Think some of those classes had HP limits so they weren't turned up much. 4840's, 7080's 1570's 4850's, 5488's and tractors like that.
Man those were the mus

As a spectator, I like farm tractor classes, not trucks, not modified multi engine tractors, not minis, (get my drift), but pulling tractors that "look" like tractors, ie: super stock, pro stock and super farm, (even though they no longer "pull", (they race now.....lol).
I'm mostly a fan of "stock" pulling , although there isn't much of that kind of pulling around anymore, then ag

Michael, you equate UNL to Nitro Cars.
Nitro Cars got a shorter distance.
Yet you want UNL to have a longer distance.
You are thinking in opposite directions.
UNL do not need longer distances which equate to a faster speed.
Speed has consequences and can kill.
Remember, tractor pulling is about pulling a load and not a speed race which the sport has become.
So if the other
