I am surprised that any club would allow an engine with a 28 in3 advantage compete in the class.

I tried to watch the race, but found it difficult to follow. Next year they need to have it as a night race, that way the cars will not be going into and out of shadows, it would also make it better for the drivers to see.

The formula for area is
Diameter x Diameter x 3.1416 / 4
5 x 0.013 holes equals 0.00066 in2
4 x 0.015 holes equals 0.00071 in2
So the 4 hole have slightly more flow area

Just spent a day on the dyno recently, water infront of the turbo gained me nothing. Actually lost power, but each there.

There were different options for the transmissions, your best bet is to take the serial number and go to the AGCO parts site (Google it) and enter as a guest. It will not be easy to decipher but you should be able to figure it out.

If you are in the Mansfield area, Marshallville is about an hour east of you
Sterling is about 45 minutes east of you, I think they have a FB page, but I was not able to find it.
There is an online listing in the Ohio Farm and Dairy for pulling events, in a normal year there are lots of county fair pulls in your area.
I would not give up on your H, in a 3 mph class a stock H can

Depending where in central Ohio you are located, there are several clubs that have antique pulls, such as Marshallville and Sterling, if you could tell us where you plan on pulling we could give you some better advice.

Timing is everything, I was in North Dakota in September and would have been interested, but not now, shipping is expensive.

I would suggest using truck and tractor classes from Northwest Pullers Association and then add classes for Stock and Antiques per Western Pa Antique Tractor Pullers. The antique classes would likely be best attended if you used the Div 2 and Div 4 classes from WPATP. Their respective websites have the rules posted and have contact information.

Does and Ambac M100 pump run at crankshaft RPM or at camshaft RPM?

Yes you can run the AMBAC pump, but I am not sure how to adapt it to the Cummins.

That is a different way of checking timing, but it makes sense.

I agree that fuel and air are critically important in this situation, I am saying that what I have is what I have, I am looking for input on things other than fuel and air.

I am trying to avoid making this a discussion on the fuel and air systems, they are as good as I can afford.
I am trying to get some insight into engine changes that would benefit the engine from a power and pre-turbine standpoint.
Thanks

I have brought this class up before, but for those who are unfamiliar, see the following list of key rules;
7k and 8k # weight classes
18.4 x 38 Non cut tires
360 in3 limit
3000 RPM limit
Rotary injection pump
Single 3LM466 max turbo size (smaller allowed)
No water injection or intercoolers
No speed limits
Stock intake and exhaust manifolds

That sounds like the missing link in this thought process, I believe the start of injection changes as the injection duration changes with load. It would be interesting to see a fixed RPM plot of load versus start of injection and load versus injection duration.

That is a good point, I have checked timing with the valve cover off and both valves are closed, so I believe we are correctly timed. The engine starts well and we made decent power at the track, but had excessive pre-turbine temps.

We have a 5.9 Cummins and are running a Stanadyne rotary pump and I am confused on the injection pump timing. I compared an injector timing light that clamps to the #1 injector line to the static timing based on the marks in the pump. There is a major difference, the static timing is about 20 advanced compared to the dynamic timing. Also the engine seems to want more timing, I say this because we

For those of you who may not know where the pull is located, it is located approximately 16 miles north of the intersection of I-79 and I-80, with excellent access to the highway. The club and the property owners have been working hard to prepare the property, there is excellent parking and the weather report is fantastic. Come join us to watch and participate is a great show.
