Keep the 50 / 55 T04 Ex. Manifold and move / lean water manifold over center line of engine for the larger turbo clearance. This will be the best option for simplicity and performance. Take water manifold to mill and change mounting surface angle to lean it out over valve cover. Straighten up bolt holes to accommodate new mount angle and your ready to go. DW

If you want a trapped / manual steering system that does not require a hydraulic pump yes, you must use a balanced steering cylinder, meaning displacement is the same on both sides of cylinder. If you want to use the cylinder pictured, a hydraulic pump with a reservoir will be required but, steering ratio will be different from right to left. DW

I like pulling as much as anybody but, it has become what I call "Pocket Pulling" Who's willing to dip into their pocket to spend the most money just to make people think he has bigger marbles to play with than the next guy whether he does or not. If that's what they are willing to do, so be it. I can still participate and or stand back and watch who has the deepest pockets! All said an

DK, If you use the smaller displacement motor the tractor would steer easier but, you will change steering ratio and be turning the steering wheel more revolutions to achieve same cylinder travel. For this reason I would recommend to use the 1.93 as steering wheel ratio is good. Steering effort will be relative to weight on front axle, front wheel placement from spindle center and if you have thr

BI, Power bleeding the steering system is simple and fast but requires a hydraulic system on a farm / mule tractor. Two small male quick connect couplers tips are plumbed to each steering cylinder port at hose connections using tee fittings. Jumper hoses with mating female couplers are connected between steering cylinder, and mule tractor hydraulic control valve. Turn flow on mule tractor to as

If this is still a true 24 volt system, unplug the neutral start switch and see if quits cranking when batteries are connected?? it does check neutral start switch for short to ground. If it is OK then move to starter button / switch to unplug starter energize circuit / wire to see if problem goes away. Let us know what you learn. DW

John Deere never intended to use the 414 as a 404 / 4020 replacement. Like comparing a red engine to a green engine the 414 was a total different series being a Dubuque built 300 series engine the 404 being a Waterloo built 400 series engine. Nothing common in parts between them other than the color and manufacture.

The 414 later replaced by the 6.8 was then later updated to four valve heads and high pressure common rail fuel systems.Used today in current model John Deere tractors.

The 414 John Deere engine was a 300 series engine not a 400 series like the 404 and was most often used in industrial equipment in it early versions. Used in tractors and combines in later years.

I don't know about an IH but do know that John Deere produced engine repower manuals and guidelines that did recommend these engines for repower swaps. I have used these manuals working for the John Deere dealerships and probably can find you a copy. Repower went out when emissions came in. As far as I am concerned saying a 619 engine should not be used in a 5020/6030 tractor would be the sa

The 619 to a 531 is the same as the 466 is to the 404 John Deere engines. The 619 used the 531 block that was over bored to make the 619. The 531 like the 404, the smaller bore engines were then faded out. The larger bore engines were used as replacements for the discontinued smaller counter part engines. The 404 had same stroke as the 466 and the 531 had same stroke as the 619. John Deere also h

It will bolt to rear half of a 4020 using the rear engine plate from a 4030 or 9000 series combine engines, I have done this in both pulling and stock applications. For stock applications it takes custom frame rails and water pump to name a few of the many custom alterations. As previous poster stated for stock / farm application much more economical to use the Waterloo engine in the Waterloo tra

Robert, I have built many of these 300 series engines in the last 40 years. I know them pretty well. I have engines I would sell including 359T, 276T, 239D. I have some parts for them as well. The 359T and 276T are both very good compete running engines. DW

Sorry, Wrong again. The 4000 had a late model 4020 rear end with less options. The 4000 had it own unique final drive assemblies that had the small axle shaft diameter 3.125. Same diameter as used one the 3030 and 4010. No 3020 or 4010 transmission castings or parts on the 4000 other than the lighter 3 point arms as used on the late 3020. Parts catalog does not lie, take a look. DW

You are right. Limit classes are no different than open classes. They are "Cubic Dollar" classes! Money buys the best parts, machine shops, knowledge, mechanics, dynometer tunes all within "the limits" and that most often builds the winning tractors. Tractor pulling 101. Small percentage of tractor pullers out there that do all there own work on there own tractors. A lot of pocket pullers that s

I really think the 300 series 414/6.8 John Deere engine can/could run with the Cummins if they let them de-cube them to the same cube. The 6.8 has or can have the P pump like the Cummins with no mods needed and has a longer stroke crank the IH 360 the JD 359 don't have. If they want a JD to run in this small cube class they need to allow this engine. The 414/6.8 is not a 400 series engine i

I bought mine at a plumbing supply house. Brass valve with three 1/2" pipe thread ports with a mounting ear. I fabricated a bracket out of a short angle iron and mounted it to side of engine behind injection pump . Valve has common gate valve lever that takes 1/4 of turn to change mode /direction of fuel flow. At the time it was less than $30.00 bucks. DW

A common shut off valve will block incoming fuel flow from a high RPM engine driven mechanical pump, which flow will have no place to go or relief to and will cause an instant pressure spike and most like blow a hose off or split a charge pump and spay fuel all over a hot engine most likely causing a instant fire and risk burning the compete vehicle on the spot. The three way bypass valve will

Mike, I built my own and it pretty simple. Three speed GMS tranny in 4010 case that is shifted on bottom shaft. I used a shift arm from a 4030 transmission to throw arm out away from side transmission case. This would allow control rod to come straight up off shift arm to inside of cage where I used a flat iron/ clutch lever from an old 105 combine (Lever could be made out of aluminum). Lever p
